Related: About this forumIs the Oklahoma primary open? What is the legislation pending?
I apologize for being illiterate and a little manic this morning. But I promise the title question bears directly on some grassroots activity in the OKC area. I looked at our pinned Group resource on this issue and a wiki page, but could not decipher a dispositive answer on this. I will call the OK Dem Party on Monday, if I can't get an answer, but if somebody has the skinny on this, could you provide a link with definitive info? Thx!

(3,859 posts)the footnote on Oklahoma referenced the South Dakota SOS in an unhappy way, so I probably won't cite it. I really appreciate the help and effort. I think the main line on OK primaries (i.e. the state parties decide on who is eligible) may be correct. Didn't see anything on pending legislation and I think something is on the table.

(3,859 posts)Following up, I called 405-521-2391, Oklahoma State Election Board and spoke to a customer service representative (see also elections.ok.gov). She put me on hold and consulted someone more senior and advised: very early section of Title 26 of Oklahoma statutes is location of enabling statute. Oklahoma is a traditionally de facto closed primary; the Democratic Party is empowered to allow Republican and/or independent voters to vote on the Democratic presidential primary but has never done so. In fact neither major party has ever allowed independents or others to vote in their primary. Anecdotally from the Oklahoma office, the only precedent is either the Reform Party or the Libertarian Party.
