Bernie Sanders Backs Universal Health Care Ballot Measure Colorado Care

BY JOHN DALEY ON 08/25/2016 - 4:39PM

Sen. Bernie Sanders, and his new political organization Our Revolution, are officially backing the Colorado ballot initiative that would establish a universal health care system in the state. The causes he and his group are actively supporting include Amendment 69, also known as ColoradoCare.

“It is absurd, it is beyond belief, that here in America we remain the only major country on earth not to guarantee health care to all people," Sanders said at a rally in Vermont Wednesday. "If that proposal can win in Colorado, I believe that idea will spread around the country.”

ColoradoCare Backers Want Bernie Sanders' Help. Will He Pitch In?

The group “No on 69” opposes the measure, saying it will be too expensive for the state, Colorado businesses and individuals.

"Sen. Sanders drawing attention to it just adds another opportunity for us to talk about the specific problems with Amendment 69," said No On 69 spokesman Sean Duffy. The measure will go to Colorado voters this fall.

After a long and bruising (understatement!) battle, Bernie is back on the path, talking the talk, walking the walk. Only now he has the beginnings of an organization walking with him. That lonely, narrow path will have to be widened to accommodate us all. Strength in numbers.
