Bernie Sanders

Arrival my very first political rally at Veteran's Memorial Coliseum in Madison Wi at 3:20 pm. As I got to the line, I was asked if I wanted to volunteer. To better understand the inner workings of a political campaign, I volunteered. To get to talk to the other volunteers as to why they supported Bernie Sanders, I volunteered. To get to a bathroom, I volunteered.
Volunteer Sign in. The dapper African American signing in at the table on the left was the best dressed of us. He was assigned to the VIP/Press registration table; he got to sign in Ed Schultz of MSNBC. Highlighting the importance of appearance when politically volunteering. Dress up not down.
First task, putting blue and white placards on every 4th or 5th seat. 10,300 seats, 25-30 of us finished an already started job. It took a while. Bernie's advance team knew what they were doing and kept everybody moving, very professional.
At one point I dashed up the entryhall to snap pictures of the cheering crowd. This was during his "extremist" counterpointing. At this point, none of the volunteers knew the actual headcount. Two minutes later we heard "Standing Room Only" 10,300+ to hear Bernie.
Venue from north to south. It was a bit amazing to see 10,000 people sitting in rapt fascination of a speaker suddenly break into applause every few sentences and immediately relapse into silence.
If you get a chance to go see Bernie, do it. If you get asked to help, it's worth it.
Join or form a local Bernie support group.

(36,063 posts)got back to the venue a bit after 5, there were about a 1500 people in line.
Once the doors opened, things really went smoothly, for midwestern folks there wasn't much to do but sit and be polite until a bit after 7 when Nichols introduced Sanders.
Thanks for your volunteer efforts.

I want to take your suggestion on the Bernie support group, but I hate navigating Facebook. Tried it; didn't work. However, I will try his web site.

Also went to my union's site and found the page there. I think most of my work for Bernie will be through my union.

Do you have any info re. forming local Bernie groups? Is moveon.org doing anything along those lines? I have my tee shirt.

(84,711 posts)Who was there? Any Dem Organization Signs you could identify. Or was it "The People" coming without any particular affiliation...which would give credit that Bernie is attracting huge crowds who are there because they are sick & tired of "BS" from their politicians.

(70,175 posts)small room, people sitting on the floor, hooting and howling, and some smart ass pinko just down stage who keeps trying to crack bernie up. (me) (it worked)
the room was on fire. a big turnout for northside dfa. super sweet. we knew if he has a few more like that one he would be a fool not to run. i walked out convinced 100% that he would run.
and hopefully the 9th congressional district and jan shakowski, tho they might pass on the primary would be all over it in the general. we are a mighty wind. we are.
