Thank the gods I didn't have to risk my life to get my education.

(4,667 posts)Also, the WTO GATS- signed by Bill Clinton in 1994, allegedly prohibits giving people a free education. TiSA, pending and almost completed in Geneva unambiguously prohibits free education and it threatens the very existence of free public education according to the top organization representing all 850 universities and colleges in the EU. Thats because the US is pushing this dismantling of public education in TiSA unless all similar services in a country are free. I can't think of a country that has only free schools, so that exemption never ever seems to apply. It makes absolutely no sense.

(34,661 posts)Had the Pearson Education Group USA as a B to B Client in the late nineties. Watched it morph into what is today. And yes,it is Global Nightmare, and the bottom line is,they as a Corporation are dismantling our National Public Educational System as we speak. And the replacement is a Fee Based Privatized Educational System which will only benefit the wealthy.
Today, there was a story on the Bloomberg about Brazil and their Privatized Educational System and how it is failing their Country. And how it plays into the Impeachment garbage going on today. Ignorance is not bliss.

There six is enough to get a decent job. or the equivalent in real world experience.
Most of the sciences require a PhD.
People with two and four year degrees are losing jobs at a fairly rapid pace. Do people realize that?

(13,877 posts)lower end jobs. It is the equivalent of a high school diploma.
But I must say, that even as it is now, the level of education is far and away below what it used to be. So, it's likely about the same amount of knowledge...just takes 16 years and handily cuts out a large population of young folk.
Go Bernie. At least now they know they're being ripped off. And even if he doesn't get elected president, he surely has made a name for himself and lots of us will continue to work for the effort. It's a Sea Change in the Social/Cultural Contract. Not just the political world.

(4,667 posts)The skill level required to be essential has been rising steadily.
Ten or fifteen years ago it was said that a college diploma (a four year degree) was the equivalent of what a high school degree was in the 60s, enough education to get a decent job.
Now the bar has risen even further. In 30 years we'll likely have self-aware computers that can do virtually all jobs people have except those reqiring an amazing level of skill.
Long before then very few people will need to work to support all the productivity the economy has today.
