Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumI think that we were going to be able to stay until it was not possible for Bernie to win,
has the date been set yet for when discussion of Bernie has to stop?

(149,635 posts)But rather only supporting the nominee.
And the date has not yet been set. Skinner will announce when we have a nominee, which will very likely be Hillary.

(13,685 posts)DU will become the "Trump said what!!" forum.
I'm a gonna miss this group and you people. Thanks for the memories!

(149,635 posts)The convention is for the whole country, not just us.
You were kidding me, right?

(17,064 posts)Skinner does own this site, and he can set his rules. However, since it's funded by the users, in sense his customers, it's a strange call to antagonize 85% of the posters here. If there's a purge, DU is going to lose a tremendous amount of valuable content and become nothing more than an echo chamber for the Jr High crowd.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,635 posts)And I don't think there will be a purge.
As long as we don't advocate for Republicans or candidates from other parties, we will be free to post here.
I believe the rules clearly state this.

The convention announces ( and determines) whether *the party* has a nominee.
But I'm a little unclear: has Skinner declared that he's going to anticipate the outcome of the convention and restrict ... in advance of the actual nominating vote... debate (HERE, on DU) over the merits of the candidates?
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,635 posts)The debate over the candidates will go on, I suspect, until the convention picks a nominee.
That's my best guess.
Smarmie Doofus
(14,498 posts)He (Skinner) OUGHT not to anticipate a convention outcome. Regardless of "the math", whatever some posters and analysts mean by that term.
We have a nominee when there is a roll call vote, determining that, at the actual Democratic National Convention.
And not before.
What we have BEFORE that is "candidates".

(17,064 posts)If Skinner declares Clinton the nominee early, and the FBI recommends prosecution prior to the convention, then Skinner has egg all over his face.
There's no reason to rush things prior to the convention...let the Jr High banshees screach all they want.

(3,133 posts)and he wants to total everything, (NY delegates are not actually awarded yet due to the fraud and audits.)
He wants to weigh everything and make OUR case, part of which Hillary is now tied to Trump.
Stupid voters? Stupid delegates? You should have heard the TYT tonight making the case to support Trump.
More than one panelist said with Trump, democrats get the house and senate in just two years. In four, we have a chance to elect another progressive. With Hillary we have the same old shit and more war, for another decade, along with no changes to house and senate.
Things that make you go hmmmm.....and after what has been said about Bernie and his supporters by the Clinton groups, and the hacking of databases and Facebook pages, I'm sure they won't mind, when it breaks for Trump. It changes the democratic party, as it'll be upside down with a loss, it changes the republican party upside down as well with a Trump win, we get the house and senate, and another chance in four years.
That was the talk on the TYT tonight's live coverage.
Well, I won't ever support Trump, but that argument makes a lot of sense.
OTOH, we get Bernie we get congress back in 2018 and millions of young people surprised and amazed that the old farts actually can still think. And so they will join.

(17,064 posts)The major flaw I see is that if you overthink the tactical vote thing, you usually end up getting bitten in the ass. Unforeseen consequences and all that.
IMO, the better alternative is for everyone to vote their conscience in Nov. After that seek to expand the progressive movement, either as Democrats or as a third party. Build coalitions with other third parties, like the Greens. Get some candidates for House seats in 2018. Then challenge the incumbant POTUS in 2020, whoever it is. I suspect the country will be begging for change then.

(517 posts)If you were a true Bernie supporter, you wouldn't be talking about stopping. I need to be able to vote for this man in Nov or I don't have a candidate that I can support. People like me need everyone to help us elect this man. We have to stop pouting and get busy. We can still do this!!! Help or be quiet while we work.

(22,000 posts)They are talking about the deadline set by Skinner when basically we are forced to either support Clinton or stop posting here. Once Skinner sends the party unity message down then we have no choice here on DU. That being said there are other places to go now. I think there will be a lot of DU "refugees" fleeing for the safe haven website once that happens.

Only in America could someone being investigated by the FBI, be allowed to run for POTUS.
Bernie's not going anywhere.
