Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumBernie should endorse Donna Edwards for the MD. US Senate nomination.
She's a strong progressive(as opposed to Chris Van Houten, the bland centrist nothingburger the MD Dem establishment is championing against her)and this is Barbara Mikulski's old seat, so the Dems don't even have an argument that they have no choice but to nominate a lesser-evil candidate.
Not sure if we have any chance in MD, but it would be the right thing to do.

(50,254 posts)And Van Hollen probably endorsed HRC as well.
It would be a goodwill gesture and do no harm.

(22,000 posts)There would be nothing gained by endorsing someone who has already been endorsed by Clinton.

(41,144 posts)and it was pretty heavy handed about Congresswoman DONNA EDWARDS (MD-4th), ending 'is there nothing else DONNA EDWARDS won't say or do.' A lot was over gun control issues I think but am not definite, since I rarely follow local news now. The nos. split was fairly wide if accurate for those two candidates running for US Senate from MD, the seat left by retiring Sen. Barbara Mikulski. Donna has has an uphill battle against centrist Van Hollen and should be welcomed as a progressive even if supported by Clinton IMO.
In the campaign for US Congress Rep. in MD's 8th District, Montgomery Co., VAN HOLLEN's seat, I saw an aggressive local TV ad against KATHLEEN MATTHEWS (D), wife of MSNBC's Chris Matthews, former news reporter and Marriott exec. Seven Democrats are now competing in this race including MD State Senator and law prof. from Silver Spring, *JAMIE RASKIN (D), a Progressive. The TV ad against MATTHEWS was run by opponent DAVID TRONE (D), wealthy wine retailer in Bethesda and focused on Matthews' campaign donors which have received criticism, a real *Insiders List outlined in the 'Intercept' article of March 11, 2016 below. https://jamieraskin.com/about-jamie
- THE INTERCEPT, March 11, 2016 *Excerpts, KATHLEEN MATTHEWS DONORSs*:
"They include veterans of the Obama, Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Reagan, Carter, Ford, and Nixon White Houses. They include members of the media, corporate lawyers, lobbyists, advocacy organization leaders, consultants, campaign managers, and one current cabinet official. The list defines a bipartisan coterie of insiders and backslappers, many of whom have a reserved spot in the Hardball rolodex.
- (Steve) McMahon told The Intercept that it is inherently *sexist for anyone to suggest that Kathleen Matthews isnt doing this on her own. He added that he donated to Matthews because I support candidates I believe in, and that he hopes to continue to appear on Hardball long after my friend Kathleen Matthews is elected to Congress. He did not respond to whether donations by on-air Hardball guests should be disclosed."
