http://www.inquisitr.com/3010595/new-york-state-primary-controversy-board-of-elections-in-upstate-county-sends-postcards-telling-voters-the-primary-is-september-13/Voters in one Upstate New York county may have run into a bit of confusion when their countys board of elections sent them a postcard reminding them about the upcoming primary on September 13.
Tuesday is the New York state primary, when voters from the Republican and Democratic parties will take to the polls to make their picks to represent them in November. So it caused a bit of controversy when voters in Central New Yorks Tompkins County got a notification from their board of elections telling them that it was actually five months out.
As 14580.com noted, the postcards arent wrong, and theyre not lying theyre just misleading, as there actually is a primary in September, although its for state and local elections. The report called it an honest mistake but noted that it was one likely to cause some confusion among voters.
But in other parts of the state, there are some much larger controversies brewing regarding the New York primary. In Brooklyn, an equally confusing postcard went out to 60,000 newly registered voters that the primary date they originally were told was wrong, and that instead it would be held on September 13. The mailer was a correction to an earlier one stating that the primary was on September 28, but neither mentioned that they were referring to the local primaries, not the presidential one

There is another special election in September but - if you were a brand new voter & a typical 20 something, you are not paying attention in politics - you are busy with work, friends, school - what would you think?
Here in Az, the worst place to vote, we are also having a special election in May. Those mailers were sent out AFTER the primary! If AZ can get this right, wth NY?!

(12,471 posts)2. I believe that there are actually THREE Primary elections in NY
One for President, one for Congress and other federal offices, and one for local and state offices.
I know that it's crazy, but it has been this way for as long as I can remember, and I am 61.
