Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumSo we're focusing on the invite instead of
what might be going on behind the scenes.
It's no mystery that Pope Francis is trying to move the church into a different direction. To a more liberal all inclusive position on things like the LGBT community, wealth accumulation, perceptions on other religions, etc.
But we all fail to see that the old guard (not unlike another situation) does not like change. It's been expressed in the media and I'm not going to look for it, we're all adults and I'm sure one can find it if they look as I've seen it multiple times.
Here's an action that seems to align with this "Theory".

I'll state the obvious, there is conflict within the church.
Whomever was or was not invited to the vatican to speak on whatever subject and all the hubbub around it only seems to solidify the fact that the conflict in the Vatican is being played out.
A very liberal and consequential leader being undermined by the more comfortable conservative followers.
I don't see anything different playing out if Bernie wins the Presidency.

(5,997 posts)On Friday, April 15, Bernie Sanders will travel to the Vatican to discuss the global economy and environmental sustainability at a conference on social, environmental, and economic issues, hosted by the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences. Sanders will speak on his vision of a moral economy.
Pope Francis has made clear that we must overcome the globalization of indifference in order to reduce economic inequalities, stop financial corruption and protect the natural environment. That is our challenge in the United States and in the world, Sanders said in a public statement.
That same day, Hillary Clinton will be attending a fundraiser in the global financial capital of Hong Kong, hosted by Gary Gensler, her campaigns Chief Financial Officer. Gensler walked through the revolving door from Wall Street to Washingtons financial regulatory system. Prior to heading up the Commodity Futures Trading Commissions (CFTC) regulation of derivative swaps, Gensler was a partner at Goldman Sachs. The fundraiser can only be attended by those willing to donate the maximum allowable contribution of $2,700.

The one thing people don't seem to mention about his alleged failed interview is he answered questions honestly. If he didn't know, he didn't know and said so. Should he have made shit up? Is that what we want in a leader is to consistently lie and make shit up?
I know a lot of smart people, mostly super talented 3D programmers who don't hesitate saying, "I don't know".
His candidacy is what I want.
So, Amen brother, let him talk.

(20,192 posts)And since when is it okay to have fundraisers OVERSEAS? Seriously, wasn't there an uproar in the 90s about All Gore accepting campaign donations from some Taiwanese nationals?
And even if it technically legal, is it really wise for Clinton to attend fundraisers in CHINA?
