If it said

Hillary Clinton -600... that means that you would have to put up 600 to win 100 or 60 to win 10

Bernie Sanders +400 that means you would win 400 by putting up 100 or put up 10 to win 40

the favorite always has the minus in front

With that said.... The odds went back against us today in a big way and she is currently a much bigger favorite

Since I normally don't bet on anything at all, I simply didn't recognize the numbers correctly.

My 29-year old son was here a couple of weeks ago, and we watched one of the March Madness games. He does a small amount of betting, and explained some of it to me.

So to make sure I am crystal clear on this, with those odds, if I put up $600 on Hillary, I'd get that money back plus $100, yes?

And if I bet $100 on Bernie, I'd get that back plus $400, right?

I also understand that the odds are largely driven by what people are actually betting, which side of whatever contest is at stake, be it an election or a sporting event. Which is why, in a horse race, for instance, you can get so very large a payout if a horse no one is betting on because it seems so totally unlikely to win, does come in first place.

Of course, betting on a political race is vastly different from a game or a race, mainly because political campaigns go on for much longer.

Again, thanks for helping me out here.

Why does it say

Hillary Clinton wins New York Primary -420
552 Field wins New York Primary +300

Why doesn't it say Hillary and Bernie? Why "Field"?

5dimes.eu (need a login to see odds)

does it that way... Essentially it lists the favorite and then the other odds are for any other candidate.

For Wyoming and Rhode Island is says Bernie vs. the field

With two people only it's silly but that's how they typically do it
