The momentum behind the Bernie Sanders campaign for president is spreading from New Hampshire to South Carolina as interest was so high in Sanders message that the campaign was forced to move his upcoming speech in Charleston to a larger venue.
Politico reported:
Over the weekend, the state chapter of the AFL-CIO labor union group jumped the gun and effectively backed his candidacy before being forced to walk its message back. Last night, on the eve of Clintons arrival, Sanders campaign said it had to change the venue for his upcoming swing through Charleston due to overwhelming local interest. That announcement which pointedly noted that the new venue is a high school gym located on President Street came just hours before Clinton was set to unveil a new plan to combat youth unemployment through tax credits for businesses who hire apprentices.
The former secretary of state continues to maintain a commanding lead over the Vermont senator in most national and early state polling including in South Carolina, where Sanders has no permanent staff. But the liberal challenger has been creeping toward her in New Hampshire polls and the energy and overflow crowds of his recent early state events are attracting notice.
The Sanders campaign has a very good problem. Support for their candidate is much higher than expected, so they have to accommodate bigger crowds. Recent polling in New Hampshire has finally convinced many in the media that the support for Sen. Sanders is real.

(41,149 posts)southern tour last year that included speaking to Veterans groups. I remember SC was on the list and wondered then about NC. Don't know if he's been through there yet. Wouldn't it be super to see him.

(11,197 posts)we'll be there. We'd go to Charleston to see him although it's not really possible for us as we have our 95 yo mother who lives with us. Needless to say we never stray too far from home. Would love to be there though. I think we're witnessing an important turning point in American history unfold, and we plan very much to be an active participants to the extent that reality allows.

(62,325 posts)noted several years ago. He was speaking about how people came out for Obama, how he had an army of people ready to help him once he was elected. But, Bernie said, after the election, Obama did not use that army, which, he said, was disappointing.
I think we know now why.
I am confident that if Bernie succeeds in his goal of starting a movement, and he's off to a good start, he as he said 'will not make that mistake'.

(5,751 posts)Never misunderestimate the Bernmiester. He's "just" an honest American. In parentheses because it's not all that common - especially in the U.S. Congress. I trust a man I've never met.
Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.
