(1,021 posts)Something occurred to me yesterday about the age divide among Clinton/Sanders voters, and it bugged the heck out of me.
Bernie's platform is (obviously) Medicare for all. When you are a senior (or other individual entitled to Medicare) and you cast a vote for Hillary, you are effectively saying to me and many other younger folks, "Yeah, sure, I get single payer healthcare, I'm happy to benefit from it, but nuts to you. For the rest of you, it's 'unrealistic.'" It strikes me as a profoundly selfish position, and it saddens me to see that it is one so many (but by no means all) seniors are willing to adopt.
I hope that among households where the kids are voting for Bernie and the parents (assuming they are on Medicare) are inclined to vote Hillary, that the kids will point this out.
Of course, it's possible I got it all wrong, or missed some big angle on this, and honestly I'd be sort of happy to hear that.
