Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumJust signed up to see Bernie
tomorrow in Kansas City!
I am so excited. It is going to be a bit difficult for us to get there but come hell or high water (my dad used to say that) we will at least be standing outside the building when the doors open. Big venue, we should be able to get in.
I will take pictures and post them here.

Make sure you slather on the sun screen.
I hear there is some type of Bern associated with these meetings.
MuseRider
(34,115 posts)numerous times this winter. We Bern all the time! Your warning is a good one, there will be more Bern there tomorrow than we are used to

(7,499 posts)My husband and I are going too! A lot of his facebook friends are going as well as some family members. It should be awesome!!
MuseRider
(34,115 posts)Are you in the KC area? Wow, I know only a few DUers in the area. We live South of Topeka but both of our sons are in KC now.
Have a great time I figure if we can get in there by 9 we might be able to make it inside to see him. I hope, don't know but it is going to be hard for us to get there by then. I don't know the capacity of Bartle Hall but if I remember correctly it should house a LOT of people.
MissDeeds
(7,499 posts)We were planning to get there around 10:00, but will probably arrive around 9:30. I hope it's packed, even if it means we can't get in. Bernie supporters from KS and MO need to send a message with a massive turn out!
MuseRider
(34,115 posts)I hope Missouri too. I agree, if we do not get it our presence will make a difference when people see how many people are there. We are about 1 1/2 hours away too different direction.
Have fun tomorrow! We will I am sure. Now I have to go find out of my sons can go. They both are musicians so they work at night but one is in Pre Med so he is likely going to be in class. Take pictures and we will too and we can show different shots from the rally.

(34,115 posts)That was an amazing evening
I just found out yesterday that Paul Simon is going to be at Starlight this summer, June 11 I think. I have all my info imput all ready for the second that box office opens.
Apparently in Greenville Ben Jealous and Danny Glover were with him. I am anxious to see who comes with him. Loving the support of people I respect and then the Bern himself. I wrote him once to thank him, long ago when the Bush** administration was in it's first term. I never dreamed of this.

(3,017 posts)Enjoy the rally in Kansas City. I saw Bernie in Greenville, SC on Sunday. It was a last minute thing. The emails on it only went out 48-72 hours ahead of the event. It was in a 15,000 seat arena and there was an enthusiastic crowd of about 3000. Bernie made a more pointed attack on Wal-Mart than I have heard him make in previous stump speeches. He said yesterday he will be contrasting his record with Hillary's over the coming weeks. I suspect Hillary's tenure on the Board of Directors of Wal-Mart from 1986-1992, alongside a director who was in charge of keeping unions out of Wal-Mart and described unions as "blood sucking parasites", will be an issue. Here's what Bernie said about Wal-Mart in Greenville (the entire speech is on YouTube):
When we talk about a rigged economy, let me give you just one example of what that means. Turns out that the wealthiest family in America today is the Walton family that owns Wal-Mart. Now I know that in South Carolina, many parts of the country, you hear a whole lot about welfare abuse, about people ripping off the welfare system, right? Well let me inform you about who the major recipient of welfare in the United States is
happens to be the Walton family, the wealthiest family in America.
Now why is that? And the reason is, that Wal-Mart, owned by the Walton family, pays wages that are so low that many of their employees are forced to go on Medicaid, food stamps and subsidized housing. You know who pays for the food stamps, the subsidized housing and the Medicaid? You do! So on behalf of the Walton family, the wealthiest family in America, I want to thank all of you for helping them out. They are down to their last 60 billion dollars, and they very much appreciate your helping them out.
But in all seriousness, I say to the Walton family and to all of those corporations who are paying their workers subsistence wages, get off welfare, pay your workers a living wage.

(11,366 posts)It was between 5,000 and 6,000 that actually attended, but even if it wasn't full to the rafters, it was VERY loud.
Where were you seated? Or were you on the floor.
I was front row center with my little girl. It was magical!
BernieforPres2016
(3,017 posts)The upper deck was screened off, but I was in the small upper level below that where there were only a few rows. It allowed me to see over the top of the the photographers and videographers who were on the platform facing Bernie but behind the floor crowd where you were. I saw a lot of people with small kids.
As far as the size of the crowd, I was scanning around taking sections and multiplying to try to estimate. I saw an article that estimated the crowd at 3000 and that was about what I thought it was.
I live in Hendersonville, NC, about 40 miles from the arena, and got an email for the event because I have contributed to the Sanders campaign.

(11,366 posts)It's a three-hour drive. My daughter and I made a weekend out of it.
This article says 5,200: http://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/news/politics/2016/02/21/sanders-rallies-5200-greenville-kicking-off-final-sc-push/80709188/
I just know it was loud. LOL.
MuseRider
(34,115 posts)I just can't wait! Sounds like you had a good time, this too was a last minute thing. I heard about it yesterday and my sons girlfriend told me to watch the site for sign up.
BernieforPres2016
(3,017 posts)Benjamin Jealous (past NAACP President), Danny Glover (actor and long-time civil rights activist) and one other gentleman whose name I don't recall spoke for a few minutes each ahead of Bernie.
MuseRider
(34,115 posts)Any of the people who travel with him would be amazing to see. I would love to hear Ben Jealous! Danny Glover would be fun and make my heart go pitter patter He is such a good man.
Whoever comes with him will be great I am certain. I will let you know.
Fawke Em
(11,366 posts)When you say it will be difficult, do you mean traveling or a health issue? After helping out in Greenville, I can tell you the FIRST people the volunteers take care of are people with disabilities.
If it's that, PM me.
MuseRider
(34,115 posts)just getting all my farm chores done before we leave around 7:30 or maybe a little earlier.
I farm and ranch, by myself. Yes I need a new hip and will be taking a cane because standing gets hard but by no means am I disabled.
My husband has some issues but they should not stop us from going. He just does not want to stand around. He is getting "too old for this" lol. He will be the guy grumbling about standing around. He loves Bernie though and the thought of possibly hearing Nina Turner (I have no idea if she will be part of this) made him really excited. We will take a camping stool for him that we can leave if we have to.
You are always so kind. I thought about saying yes but ya know, I just can't lie like that. Especially can't lie like that going to a Bernie Sanders event.
Fawke Em
(11,366 posts)However, if you can still farm and ranch, you're probably healthier than me! LOL!
Hope you have a blast. It really is like one great big party!
MuseRider
(34,115 posts)I can't wait. Gonna go fill the gas tank pretty soon. Yeah, that farm thing keeps me pretty healthy even though I use a cane from time to time. I can do about anything I want to do.
truegrit44
(332 posts)won't make it My husband does NOT do crowds and standing for me would be pretty physically demanding, however I will be yelling from here for him and so glad to hear neighbor DU's are going! I just read that Bartle Hall holds 11,000 in the arena part which I would assume is where they will have it. Hope it is filled to the rafters.
You all have fun and give a cheer for me.
MuseRider
(34,115 posts)We are too, just South of Topeka. We could take you if you are close and Fawke said there are people who will get you in first if you have a problem. Let me know I will check in during the Town Hall. If that does not work I will give many cheers for you.
