West coast, solid progressive credentials, smart as hell, experienced in Washington, African-American female. What's not to love?

...just like Bernie Sanders! year after year after year!

Decades of saying the right things and trying to do the right things for fairness and peace among ourselves and between ourselves and other countries.

GREAT TICKET! Their time has come!

I know a lot of people want him to pick a younger running mate, but she's got the same year in and year out solidity that he does, not changing with every politically expedient wind. I also don't want to steal another one of our good Senators out of the Senate; we need them there as keystones to build upon.

I can think of some reasons this might help Bernie.

The Wikipedia article on that year's Republican race explains the tactical situation:

The 1976 Republican National Convention was held in Kansas City. As the convention began, Ford was seen as having a slight lead in delegate votes, but still shy of the 1130 delegates he needed to win. Reagan and Ford both competed for the votes of individual delegates and state delegations. In a bid to woo moderate Northern Republicans, Reagan shocked the convention by announcing that if he won the nomination, Senator Richard Schweiker of Pennsylvania, from the northern liberal wing of the party, would be his running mate. The move backfired, however, as few moderates switched to Reagan, while many conservative delegates were outraged. The key state of Mississippi, which Reagan needed, narrowly voted to support Ford; it was believed that Reagan's choice of Schweiker had led Clarke Reed, Mississippi's chairman, to switch to Ford. Ford then won the nomination, narrowly, on the first ballot.

Offhand I can't recall any other modern instance.

An excellent qualification. However, I'm concerned about her age, and I'm just a couple of years younger than she is. But like Bernie, she vigorous and healthy, so maybe not really a problem.

Her vote against the AUMF was when I began to listen to her. Her beliefs line up well with Bernie's.
