Bernie Sanders

Jackson painstakingly avoids implying he supports one candidate over another. However, the issues he highlights are Bernie's platform. He makes an interesting observation about the Culinary union's lack of endorsement in Nevada. The host makes an incorrect statement about the CBC (as opposed to the CBC PAC) endorsing Clinton.

(10,345 posts)You can say that Jesse referred to many issues that happen to be Bernie's platform but the problem is, we know this. Hillary has adopted the majority of Bernie's platform as well and has tried to #stealthebern. She does this so when people go to compare the two candidates, it's much harder to see the differences. So Jesse can point out Wall St being a problem, then the MSM can just play the soundbite of Hillary attacking Wall St and ignore Bernie.
Fuckin' MSM.

(1,021 posts)On the other hand, among youth (and here I'm saying voting age-to-35 at least) there is a big question about how much endorsements even matter anymore, and more importantly, whose endorsements. Appeal to authority doesn't work quite like it used to, and some seemingly helpful endorsements (like CBC) may actually have the potential to backfire if those groups or individuals aren't seen as 1) delivering and 2) relevant by their younger constituents.
I think, for instance, that Erica Garner's endorsement probably carries a lot more weight among younger voters than Jesse Jackson's. Same for Killer Mike. It would almost certainly help at least a little among older voters to have a Jesse Jackson endorsement, because they both know him and are probably more likely to give increased weight to endorsements.
Of course, I could also be totally wrong.
As for your point about the media, if he had even suggested he liked Bernie's platform better, the whole interview would have just been buried. It's lose-lose for Bernie on MSM.

(15,729 posts)Bernie knows that and have probably told them to just say what they fill they have to say. If Hillary wins, anyone who has said anything good about Bernie is toast. Bill and Hillary have always had a very long blacklist. If Bernie wins it does not matter at all what they said or endorsed.
