Feb, 13. Ben Jealous, fmr. head of the NAACP and Sanders supporter talked from Columbia, South Carolina today with Alex Witt on MSNBC, answering questions and commenting about,
Rep. John Lewis' clarification today of remarks made about Sen. Bernie Sanders recently at the Congressional Black Caucus Pac endorsement of Hillary Clinton at the DNC.
Bernie's participation in the Civil Rights Movement and in Chicago as Chair of CORE, the Congress of Racial Equality allied with Lewis' SNCC, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, sister groups that many people worked for including his mother.
Major reasons why he is backing Bernie Sanders, the candidate who will to do the most in many areas and go the furthest to fight for the issues. Referencing Martin Luther King who said from jail, moderates who knew better yet did not do enough, Ben added, "We don't need a moderate who doesn't do enough; we need an idealist who's going to fight for us."
Black people are looking and liking what they see in Sanders; many people in South Carolina are fired up about Bernie.
Latino and black communities, major Democratic blocks are motivated and aligned not just for Nevada but for states like Mississippi and Texas where Super Tuesday on March 1, is very much in play.

(41,143 posts)qualities he sees necessary in a candidate and how voter support for Bernie is truly growing. Experienced, sincere and open minded he's a big asset to Bernie's campaign. I like his manner and style very much too, always have.
Invoking Martin's observation that bigots weren't the biggest problem but the indifference of moderates is so relevant to where we are now.
When some of Ben's family's history was brought out on Skip Gates PBS program, 'Finding Your Roots' he showed a real human side like most people do when research reveals new information about their origins and heritage.
