Let's get more positive!

What is the best use of our time spent on this discussion board?

I ask this because I have seen a lot of Bernie supporters (including myself) drawn into threads that are very obviously flame bait. Is there a way we can come together to agree to avoid these? A lot of them are put up by the same people again and again and many of these seem to be an effort to distract, disorient, or anger a lot of us (again, myself included). I just wonder if there isn't a way to handle this somehow.

Most of them will drop into oblivion if we ignore them. Even opening them up seems to give the people posting them some kind of credit and keeps them around longer.

Personally, I am just going to start using the trash-thread option a hell of a lot more. I don't know why the third-way people seem so very active here or why there is always a strong conserva-dem presence on this site but I have little intention on giving it anymore time or energy.

Sorry for this rambling post.

responding to them only draws attention to them. They are venues for alerts and arguments. They can't change our minds, we won't change theirs. So why bother? We have our group, a vibrant popular group. Let's focus on Bernie and not worry about them. I don't use trash thread and ignore, I like to see what's going on but one thing for sure there are some people who I just don't respond to or reads their OPs. It's not worth it.

think about what your goal is.

Is it to get Bernie elected President of this board?

This place is great for learning and connecting. Strategy and talking with potential influencers and voters, however? Perhaps that time is better spent elsewhere...

with this, and in a broad sense, with the OP.

Stay positive, but the fight is not on DU. The fight is in the real world.

I watched Bernie's interview with Katie Couric. He refused to attack Hillary Clinton. We should follow that example.

Share with each other, encourage each other, and stay positive. It's a long haul just to get through the primaries.

Let's go.

I don't have anyone on ignore, but from experience have learned to skip over anything they post without reading it. It serves no purpose to argue with them; we won't change their minds and they won't change ours. As you said, their posts "seem to be an effort to distract, disorient, or anger" us. The best way to shut them down is to simply ignore them and don't fuel the flames.

but I did notice recently (once last night & one this morning) that it is a good strategy to stay out of the threads because then you can be called for jury duty. I am very happy that 2 posts were hidden (4-3 each) that were exactly the type of thing you're describing. If we're not in the thread we're more likely to get called to serve on those juries.

It means that once you use it you never have to look at that thread again.

However, I have been told that doing that means that you also will be disqualified from serving on a Jury related to that thread. So it might be a mixed blessing.

And I know exactly what you mean. I've put several on block as I just couldn't take the lies, exaggerations or just awful stuff anymore...I can hardly believe the nasty things that are being said because everyone does not agree with them and their candidate. If they weren't long time DUers, I would swear they were trolls!

I will start using the trash function more but...at times I don't want the weirdos to just get away with sliming Bernie...persons are always going to stumble upon the threads and would hate for people to get suckered into believing the posted garbage...it's so Foxish of these posters.
