Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumOK. My husband and I just returned from voting for Senator Sanders 8)
We have o/a 500 registered voters in this Blink and You'll Miss Itville. We had to wait in line about 15 minutes to do the deed. That's the longest we've ever waited. IOW what passes for a mob scene here. People are jazzed.
Now the wait begins.
Any other Graniteheads out there, let's hear from you.

I agree, he has ours and we will have his.
We have been waiting all our lives for a real person, a sensible and good human to vote for.

(14,177 posts)I grew up in a um town? No not that big...a village...no not that big either. Oh a hamlet by the same name. There are streets that are not accessible by google maps like no walking around with the icon.
I had a question though what was the buzz like in while you were waiting. Did you get any sense of which way people were leaning? When I have been in line in Minnesota waiting people were very closed up as far as saying where they were leaning, except when I lived in North Minneapolis people there nearly shouted who they were there to vote for.
sarge43
(28,942 posts)Tends to be fairly taciturn. We'll talk politics, but not choices. Gut feeling: People are fed up and want real change.
Kalidurga
(14,177 posts)When I actually lived in an urban area it was a bit different. People seemed more willing to actually talk about choices and be more open about who they supported sometimes loudly. I miss that I still go to the city on occasion to be around people that are more open about things. Still being raised in a place where openness was considered a weakness I am not quite as comfortable with sharing all that, but I do find it well I dunno. I like to know what people are thinking though and in the city well you get an idea of what they are thinking.

Yep I think the tide is turning for Bernie here the polls have him behind a bit last I checked. But, I expect him to win by a healthy percent by March 1st.

(15,859 posts)Turnout is *very* high and lots of new Dem registrations. We had to re-register due to moving earlier this year and the line to vote was out the door. The elderly couple walking in before us were talking about how they hoped Bernie would be inside. People are jazzed over here too.

(10,749 posts)Voted at 8:30 - for Bernie, no lines, no exit poll. And who are all those people on the democratic ballot? Half of them sound like names of characters from novels.
Had to show photo id. I think this is the second election I was asked for that. On the one hand, it bothers me, especially since, at our polling location, the average age of poll workers is about 110, and they didn't really look very closely. On the other hand, it doesn't seem overly burdensome. I don't know if there's a fee waiver for a non-DL ID card, but if there isn't, there should be, and getting such an id should be far easier than it is (limited DMV locations, lines, etc.)
sarge43
(28,942 posts)It's just another way to harass the plebes.
Any valid photo id will serve - military id, passport. Yes, you're right. Getting any ID shouldn't be a Monty Python three legged sack race.
"....average age of poll workers is about 110."
Senior citizen poll workers and voters moment.
Husband and id checker did the cockpit scene from Airplane!
"Your name please."
"Huh?"
"What?"
"I can't hear you."
"Say again."

I point to the sign on the table: State your full name out loud.
My One True Love mumbles; the poll worker mumbles. Law satisfied and democracy triumphs again.

(15,859 posts)She sat down at the registration table next to me while I was re-registering (moved). All she had to do was sign a form verifying she was who she claimed to be. She was told about the penalty should she be found to be lying. Easy peasy. She was done before I was.

(3,577 posts)I wonder if the Republican legislature in Wisconsin would adopt such a procedure that could help the thousands of voters who can't get one of the few types of acceptable ID?
Nah, that would go against the purpose of the ID law (disenfranchising Democrats).

(15,859 posts)A poll worker also snapped a polaroid. No good reason why they couldnt do that in every state, if you want people to vote that is.

(812 posts)Rather, for our local school levy.
Mike__M
(1,052 posts)That's important stuff.
Several years ago our little town (pop. ~500) failed to pass a school maintenance levy. The school district (one elementary school) said "No, really, we need to raise the money," and put it back on the next ballot. Voters again turned it down. The school closed; the kids were without a building for a year (the nearby Indian tribe let them use part of their building); then they were absorbed into another town's district, who didn't want them because they would bring the "No" votes into that district, plus the new district had to pay to demolish the asbestos-filled schoolhouse. After that, when I went elsewhere in the state and people heard where I was from, they'd say "Oh, you're the ones who closed your school."
Conservatives suck.

(812 posts)What I always find interesting is that they let they let the loser parents continue to have an opinion.
We're in a decidedly purple district, so I'm surprised we do as well as we do. Our schools all have music and arts programs, still can't figure out how enough people could be this willing to pay extra taxes for anything besides test scores.
(Funny thing though, we also have a specific music/arts school, a wild experiment which seems to exist in spite of the system rather than because of it, and it smokes everyone else on those test scores, ranking right along schools in districts with very deep pockets.)
