Bernie Sanders Group - Targeted Mainstream Media Program
In an effort to gain more media traction the Bernie Sanders Group is asking YOU to take some time and talk about Bernie on social media. We also would ask that you reach out to the mainstream media as well, in order to make our actions towards the mainstream media we'd like to target one media personality or publication a week. In order to do this we will need you to reach out and contact this media personality with positive information/news about Bernie Sanders.
This week's media focus will be The The Daily Show

Send The Daily Show your thoughts about Bernie, why you are supporting him, anecdotal stories/photos. Let them know what you think about their coverage of Senator Sanders. Most importantly, let them know you want Senator Sanders on before Jon Stewart abandons us
LET'S BERN IT BABY!
P.S. I would like to add that we should, as merrily suggested, Thank Juan Cole. Please see Eridani's post Juan Cole: How Mainstream is Bernie Sanders?
We might want to also thank Jon Stewart for his more recent treatment of Senator Sanders when we request Sanders appearance on the show. Just a thought
#Bernie2016!

I am tired so I don't have some other contact stuff in there, but I will add it tomorrow.
Let's Bern it, baby!

(3,894 posts)he's since redeemed himself and is now giving Bernie respect instead of ridicule. He would conduct a fantastic interview! I'll definitely reach out to him.

(17,997 posts)I really hope he has him on. I want Stewart to interview him.
Thanks!

(45,251 posts)That was April 30. The comments lovingly reproached Jon for his treatment of Sanders. Who knows? That may have been a factor in the different approach Jon took after Bernie's formal announcement. He even lumped one of his own April 30 pot shots at Bernie in with those of the likes of Fox.
I don't see why a show would pay no attention whatever to the comments of its fans.
Stardust
(3,894 posts)I've de-activated my Facebook account so I probably won't be able to comment there, but I'll find another way. The Daily Show has an undeniable influence on the younger crowd.

(17,997 posts)And thank you for always using the Bernie Bounce (where appropriate)
But mostly, thank you for all you do for Bernie and all of us!

(62,325 posts)It would be a historical way for him to leave the show, knowing that this may be a very important period in our history.
Wishful thinking, but a lot of people are asking him. My tweet to him was retweeted so more people may have contacted him also.
Keep up the good work, we love what you do for this group.
marym625
(17,997 posts):hugs:
I think so to. I need to reddit and tweet some more. I have written to the show a few times but I haven't tweeted or reddited (is that a word? ) in a while.
You rock, my friend!
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)In fact I believe it was people from Reddit who started the Bernie TV channel. I tweeted them today, following them also, to ask if they would be live streaming. They responded that 'yes they would'. Maybe contact them also, their following grew today by a couple of hundred. So every little bit helps!
No, YOU ROCK mary. We are going to do this. What a great night it was, filled beyond capacity!

(18,791 posts)Is there a way to send comments?
I didn't see a "Contact Us" mention on the show page.
marym625
(17,997 posts)Sorry, I should have been more clear. You have to email through Comedy Central. They have a contact email there.
I will get it for you today
Thank you!

(1 post)Can we get Bernie on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert in September?
marym625
(17,997 posts)I was planning on leaving this up until Stewart's last show. But maybe a week before we can start working on Colbert.
Thanks! I love it

(45,251 posts)Republicans, but he's no leftist.
I almost love the guy. I don't think I have missed a show since I got On Demand. But, he has taken only the mildest and briefest of shots at New Democrats and treats Bubba and Hillary like visiting royalty, especially Bubba.

(7,321 posts)ewww. his esteem has just take n a new low for me. seriously disgusting.

(45,251 posts)Colbert once took one of most mean spirited pot shots at Kucinich--for sticking to his principles. Something about how that related to accomplishing nothing.
What the fuck has the Democratic Party come to when having principles makes you an object of scorn?
Neither Colbert nor Stewart is as liberal as his mom. Colbert's mom attended the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom while pregnant with him and Stewart's mom, a school teacher, set him straight on charter schools. Of all the center right politicians Jon has interviewed, I believe he was harshest with Arne Duncan.
marym625
(17,997 posts)But I agree with merrily, he's not really all that liberal. Look at how he blew the fight for reality things he and colbert did

A couple of weeks ago, I went to the Daily Show's facebook page to leave a plug for Bernie and noticed a fresh comment from a viewer asking Jon to spend less time on Trump and give some to Sanders. Maybe that was a member of the Bernie Group, being obedient to this thread?
this is not the Stewart I used to give a fair amount of praise to.
Wonder why he's going out as a tool? hmm. geeze.
merrily
(45,251 posts)And he is not particularly leftist, more centrist. Last week, he described a photo of all five Democratic Presidential primary candidates as "That's Hillary Clinton and.......some other people." However, he did give Bernie a sound bite in the same show, saying he (Sanders) lacked the "dickishness" Trump. (The bit was why he kept covering Trump.)
Colbert is even more centrist than Stewart, I believe. I am bracing for when he has Bernie as a guest.

(45,251 posts)Jon did take time out during this week to take one more Daily Show shot at Bernie. Glancing at an outdated, and possibly photoshopped, photo of Bernie with his hair standing straight up, Jon said how hard it is for anyone to take your candidacy for President seriously when your hair always looks as though you stuck your dick in an electric socket.
I have no missed an episode of the Daily Show in years, either when aired or via On Demand, but that parting shot did make last night much easier for me. Still, I will miss Jon in the host's chair. Huge talent.
Well, we tried.

(3,859 posts)when Bernie's name got mentioned! The Millenial audience understands it wasn't a put down, imo. At least he mentioned him. More than the SCMSM does.

(62,325 posts)that the only actual sane person in the race is viewed as 'radical' is because we have become so used to off the wall candidates or something to that effect.
Just mentioning Bernie got huge applause.
And it may be he was using satire to show how trivial the issues are when all they talk about is someone's hair.
He will be missed, he saved a whole generation from having nothing other than the Corporate Media as their 'education' re politics.
merrily
(45,251 posts)said about Bernie.
Sequence was:
Had Bernie on show in 2011, when Bernie was promoting book made from Bernie's filibuster against Republicans.
For whatever reason, did not have him on again or mention him much that I recall until 2015.
Mocked Sanders mercilessly after his very brief informal 2016 announcement (which was brief because Sanders was working in the Senate that day)
Many viewers protested the random, pointless beat down
Jon made the nice comment about Bernie to which you refer, but ended with something like "but you may want to comb your hair occasionally."
A couple of weeks ago, the show showed a photo of the five Democrats who are seeking the 2016 Presidential nomination, which Jon described it as "Hillary Clinton and.....some other people."
During his last week, when viewer protests were probably not a big concern, Jon made the comment about no one's being able to take Sanders' run seriously.
Throughout, Jon has had Bubba, Hillary and Chelsea on and treated them with respect and apparent fondness, though he did make one brief reference to the news about the foundation donations and Hillary's actions as SOS.
Hillary was the only Democratic candidate to appear on Jon's last show.
That the audience cheers whenever Bernie's name or image show up is, IMO, due to Bernie and the audience, not Jon. Same thing happens when Bernie's name is mentioned or his image on any show.
I got no sense that Jon was trying to show how trivial it is to focus on Sander's hair or to laugh at how short his unofficial announcement was, etc. Nor, apart from that one occasion, has Jon said nice things about Bernie or even noted how he has been filling venues with thousands of people.
As I said, I have been a faithful viewer and huge fan, but I note the facts as they actually unfolded on the screen and nonetheless still am both a fan of Jon and a supporter of Bernie.
