Double Standard?

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton on Sunday said there is a “double standard” that frowns upon women giving impassioned speeches.

“Look, we are still living with a double standard,” Clinton said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I know it. Every woman I know knows it.”

“You know, sometimes I talk soft, sometimes I get passionate, and I get a little bit excited. I don’t know any man who doesn’t do the same thing, and I find it kind of interesting that this is a big discussion about me once again."

I have to say I just don't get this. Bernie has been criticized and mocked for yelling for months and months. But when people say the same thing about her, it is "sexist"? Look, I'm a woman, and I just don't understand or sympathize with Hillary's complaints about how there is a double standard and how she has it harder than Bernie. They sadly ring to me as not at all reflective of reality, and I hate saying that, but when you have the entire establishment of the party behind you, trying to defeat your opponent, it is not realistic to pretend you are the underdog or to complain about how tough you have it.

Here is just a sample of the "Bernie Yelling" stories (Google it and you'll find lots more from sites that we should not link to here):

So all I am saying is how it this sexist? If anything Bernie could have been playing the ageist card for months, but has not and will not.

I think that is part of the reason Bill Clinton came out of his presidency smelling so good. Crazy Newt had been after him for 6 years but he never really tried to play for sympathy.

Lack of trustworthiness while screaming. A lot of the time she screams while defending herself against valid criticisms, as if screaming will change the facts of the matter.

Compare this with Bernie, who has been screaming his ass off for 40 years about the inequality in our country and the financial corruption in our political system. He isn't bought and paid for. He's a true believer and a pretty damn good vessel for the anger so many millions of people across this country are feeling.

She sounds like she's protesting too much to make up for her phoneyness. And how it grates. Somebody called her Madame Staccato the other day and I thought that was perfect. It's an act.

Bernie's yelling is sincere and comes from the heart. That's why his moves me and hers annoys me.

A lot of her yelling is full of sarcasm, mockery, scorn directed at her opponent.
Or faux outrage, defensiveness, How DARE you impugn my integrity!, Shame on you, Barack Obama! rhetoric

Not righteous indignation about the state of the world.

It's that scolding, sarcastic tone that grates on me.

I think a lot of it is just to rile up the crowd at a rally. For some reason, they always start applauding, no matter what it is she's shouting.

At any rate, this constant whining about double standards & sexism is embarrassing and counterproductive.

But please proceed, Madam Secretary

doesn't win over friends. She did well on the foreign policy section of Thursday's debate, but before that it was just one awful moment after another for her. If she does make it to the general--I can't understand why she is purposely demeaning and antagonizing Bernie supporters with her snarkiness. It seems counterproductive.

13. I heard an interesting segment about "the Dean Scream" on NPR yesterday.

Feb 2016

Of course, they aired it on a Saturday in the middle of the afternoon, when there were probably few listeners, but they interviewed someone who pointed out that the microphone Dean was using was designed to pick up only the speaker's voice and exclude transmission of outside noises.

At this sort of event, there are typically multiple microphones in the hall--one in the speaker's hand, maybe one up on the lights, etc.--and sound engineers usually mix the microphone output to give a sense of the crowd's response while still making sure the speaker can be heard.

That's not what happened for the Dean scream. We didn't hear how much background noise was going on in the room, making Dean's impassioned speech seem a lot more over-the-top. On yesterday's show, they played a track of Dean's speech superimposed over a recording of the crowd noise at the time he was speaking.

The crowd was so noisy you couldn't hear Dean's "Yeah!!" at all.

Say what you will about Thatcher, when anyone tried to rattle her, she'd turn on them like a rabid pit viper. Don't whine; make them whine. She did have a great advantage; she made her bones in that verbal free fire zone - the British Parliament.

People not liking her SHRILL SCREAMING has nothing to do with her being a woman. Her SCREAMING IS SHRILL and very annoying...as it would be if she were a man. She needs to stop this shit. She's embarrassing the female population!

Damn, she's pathetic. Really pathetic.
