After Thursday nights debate, Ive got a piece of unsolicited advice for Hillary Clinton. Dont use this line again: Senator Sanders is the only person who I think would characterize me, a woman running to be the first woman president, as exemplifying the establishment.
The problem with the remark is obvious. Clinton does not merely exemplify the establishment. She and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, are the Democratic Party establishment. Were in the realm of description, not characterization. That candidate Clinton could deliver her line with a straight face goes to the heart of her trustworthiness problem.
She really believes she can put a line like that over on us?
So fess up, Madame Secretary. You are the establishment. Playing the gender card cant get you out of it. If anything, it only makes the disavowals weirder. My guess is that, despite this years anti-establishment waves, voters will ultimately tolerate your establishment status. Its certainly more tolerable than a straight-faced claim that the pearls dont fit.

(28,941 posts)The first woman to run for the Democratic Party's nomination was Cora Wilson Stewart in 1920. The first woman to make a significant run was Shirley Chisholm in 1972.
Margaret Chase Smith was the first Republican woman, 1952
Many women have made third party runs.
Yeah, Clinton should apologize to Stewart and Chisholm

(17,505 posts).... she's much further out of touch than anyone guesses!
This seems the same as thinking quoting her and mentioning her record is an "attack".
God, she's so fake!
