Hilary Clinton’s Awful Explanation for Why She Took Goldman Sach’s Money

Again, none of her supporters can offer any answer why this is okay for a Democrat but they’d be armed with pitchforks if it was a Republican. We always gave the GOP stick for their hypocrisy so why is it suddenly just ducky for Democrats to do it?

But when Cooper asked if her speeches constituted an “error in judgement,” Clinton responded glibly, “I made speeches to lots of groups.” And when he pressed her on the hundreds of thousands of dollars she accepted from the firm, Clinton offered perhaps the worst answer yet:

Well, I don’t know. That’s what they offered. Every Secretary of State I know has done that.
“That’s what they offered.”

An answer that A) doesn’t explain why she thought it prudent to accept that sort of money from Wall Street and B) doesn’t make any sense considering Hillary’s minimum for paid remarks is actually just (“just”) $200,000. She also claimed that she’d done the speeches under the pretense that she maybe probably wouldn’t be running for president in a few years—which seems absurd to anyone who was even moderately awake that year.

She takes to steps back when answering him. He stayed exactly where he was.

I think her body language reveals discomfort, pressure, retreat. She's distancing herself from the threat. The further she moves away from the source of the threat, the more physical safe space she creates. Her initial mini-adrenaline dump subsides, and she begins to create a figurative safe space as she brings the narrative back to her comfort zone of stronger talking points.

I took some Benadryl to get to sleep because the cocktail of MS drugs is making sleep impossible so I’ve only read transcripts etc. This was eye opening.

You are DEAD ON with your assessment of her retreat. The thing is there is NO WAY for her to answer that question that won’t lead to other questions...other questions she will NEVER answer because there is no way for her to justify, as a DEMOCRAT, her cozy relationship not only with the financial “services” sector but pharma, the private prison complex etc etc.

I gave $650k to someone once, and I got a HOUSE in return. I can’t believe anyone thinks there is no quid pro quo. I would be inclined to let it slide if it was a one-off, but it wasn’t.

It doesn't matter if they're not asking for anything in return. You know what they're going to expect from you, if not now, then later. Powerful friends make for powerful enemies.

And whatever happened to the idea of someone in (or aspiring to) public office looking to avoid even the appearance of impropriety?

Republicans tell losers they should pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. Hillary and Bill did just that. They worked hard and got themselves out of financial difficulty.

DON'T BE LIKE REPUBLICANS ! We should be praising Bill and Hillary instead of criticizing them for making hundreds of thousands speaking to Wall Street corporations.

All of the ugly and none of the positives are on full display day by day.

That was a horror show answer though. Take away all of her and Bill's history and its still a hideously bad answer to a question.
She just had her Poppy Bush and the produce scanner moment showing just how completely out of touch she has become.

She knows that $600K is nearly a life's work for the working poor.
She can't keep being this tone deaf, it will kill the party if she doesn't stop exposing her underbelly BEFORE the general...if she beats Bernie and keeps making these gaffes, we will have President Rubio.

Wicked smart when taking credit, hopelessly naive when shifting blame.
