Petition to Suspend Chris Matthews or Give Bernie Equal Time

http://pac.petitions.moveon.org/sign/msnbc-suspend-chris-matthews?source=none&fb_test=0

MSNBC should suspend Chris Matthews, host of Hardball, because of his constant shilling for Hillary Clinton. In every episode of Hardball, in every "exclusive" interview with Clinton, he gives her endless time to make her case, repeats her talking points, gives her softball questions, denigrates Bernie Sanders and his people powered movement and reinforces the narrative that she will be the Democratic nominee. Matthews should be removed from the air for the duration of the campaign or he should be required to give Bernie equal time.

For example, Alter said Medicare for All is not politically doable because the American people don't want it.

Well, they used to favor it by about 70%. Then, both parties started telling them how awful it was. That has been going on since before ACA passed. Guess what, alkmost 60% still want it anyway.

Did Lawrence O'Donnell correct the record? Nope.

5. We had a "Fairness Doctrine" in this country until the Reagan junta.

Those using our public airwaves for commercial purposes were REQUIRED to give equal time to alternative views when the owners or their employees, on camera or on a radio mike, expressed a political opinion.

Since Reagan, there has been blatant violation of even the barest kind of fairness throughout the Corporate Media.

Even Republicans like Eisenhower understood the need to promote democracy and open discussion in the new broadcast media, especially TV (new at that time) and also radio (older). But it was TV that really inspired the "Fairness Doctrine" because of its sheer power of visual imagery to hypnotize, propagandize and control the viewing population. Such control was considered unacceptable in a democracy, even by Republicans and some of the oligarchs of that era. Strict lines were drawn between the commercial and news departments; a broadcaster expressing an opinion was required to provide time for other views; and all broadcasters were required to provide time for public events, such as full coverage of our political conventions, or speeches by the president.

We need to bring back the "Fairness Doctrine," of course tailored to our era of technology--including, for instance, net neutrality as a right and even as an amendment to the Constitution. And, as for our increasingly irrelevant and dying broadcast media, they need to get democratic again, or be forced to do so. It will do them good, really. They are so-o-o-o-o bad.

One interesting element of the "Fairness Doctrine" is that, while it did not apply to print media, it did greatly influence print media. We had much better newspapers, much better reporters, and much better in-depth articles and information. This industry also could be revived by democratization.

Thanks for your info about this petition, Soap Box! I will sign it!

It provides details on this:

Tweety's wife running for Congress endorsed Hillary and many of her donors are Clinton alumni.

Tweety has a conflict of interest. He shouldn't be involved in commentating on this primary at all. He's been favoring Hillary and knocking Bernie any chance he gets. It's obvious. MSNBC needs to keep him off the air.

with Chris Hayes & Rachel anymore. Rachel is so full of herself, I felt that way before the primary season. Yes she did a great job reporting on Flint but what about the gas leak in California? Silence in comparison.
as far as tweety - I turned him off years ago, all that blubbering and yelling and talking over every one..

Lawrence is good. Esp the first 45 minutes. He is much more informative than Rachel & Hayes, imho. because he will talk about different topics than the ones discussed non-stop all day. And he has actual Bernie supporters and Hillary supporters on his show to debate each other.

Because it's crap.

Giving them your money only encourages them. Complaining won't change this.
