Potent cannabis increases risk of serious mental illness, says study

By Michelle Roberts
Health editor, BBC News online
20 March 2019

Smoking potent 'skunk-like' cannabis increases your risk of serious mental illness, say researchers.

They estimate around one in 10 new cases of psychosis may be associated with strong cannabis, based on their study of European cities and towns.

In London and Amsterdam, where most of the cannabis that is sold is very strong, the risk could be much more, they say in The Lancet Psychiatry.

Daily use of any cannabis also makes psychosis more likely, they found.

Experts say people should be aware of the potential risks to health, even though the study is not definitive proof of harm.

I'm a very nice guy.

I'm usually hurting if I'm stone cold sober, but slightly buzzed Me will still get all his work finished while also being a rather pleasant fellow to be around.

So what if I've got to juggle the threat of psychosis. I'll be dead before I go insane... I hope. It's a game we all play these days.

It's definitely for me. Definitely not for my sibling with major mental illness.

I've lived in the PNW for the last 15 years and have access to the most potent flower and extract available anywhere. I vape daily. I call all these types of scary articles bullshit.

These prohibitionists really are getting desperate. I read when New Jersey pulled its legalization bill Kevin Sabet and the folks at SAM we’re celebrating it, saying something like “they keep saying marijuana legalization is inevitable. It’s not!” Hey Kevin? Don’t celebrate too hard, you’ll hurt yourself! 😡

was making people insane. I think the psychosis would be short term as the high only lasts so long, right? Or can you get permanently twisted from smoking really good pot?

Anyone? Bueller?

when doing edibles. Had one bad experience and another less so. I overdid the 1st time. Typically I can do edibles with no issue. But I do know this experience.
