I have no idea how to raise it.

They gave it to me in a fabric pot of some sort and said there were no nutrients in it now at all.

3. How big is it?

Like a little clipping, or taller than 6 inches? How many sets of leaves? And how big of a pot is it in?

The roots on young clippings are very sensitive and can be burned by fertilizers/manure/humus.

We never fertilized until the clones were strong enough to be transplanted into big pots, and the first nutrients they got were from humus mixed into the potting soil.

I was a closet farmer in college, many years ago. I do remember the best reference book was the Marijuana Growers Bible, I think it's available for free online.

4. The growers bible sounds great.

It is about 5 and half inches tall from the medium in a gallon smartpot. About 10 or 11 full sets of 5 leaves and a few smaller ones.

It covers everything, including the many fertilizer choices. Fertilizer can be a sticky issue (probably the only area that causes debate).

Organic vs. commercial preparations, the different types of natural high nitrogen fertilizers for the flowering stage, what's best for the vegetative state vs. best for the flowering stage, etc.

There's a lot of info and no shortage of opinions.

It sounds like yours is big and strong enough to transplant and begin fertilizing.If you've grown tomatoes, there's not much difference in the needs and care.

A good, light potting soil mix (Pro-mix is great) mixed with humus and/or sterile manure is a great growing medium that continually supplies nutrients. Let the plant settle into it's new pot for a several days and then begin your fertilization regimen.

The bigger the pot, the better. We transplanted 3" clones directly into their final 5 gallon buckets. The root system needs plenty of space to grow and spread without stress. Too much stress on the roots can cause a plant to go hermaphrodite.

This all sounds more complicated than it is- it really is a weed. How much you do depends on how fussy you want to get with it, and how you feel about organic vs. nonorganic. We used Miracle Gro. It was super easy, and it's a complete fertilizer that contains trace elements, like manganese, that are missing from many natural fertilizers. We never had any growth or deficiency issues and couldn't taste "chemicals" in the buds (as some like to claim). This was also 25 years ago, so there are likely cannabis-specific commercial preparations available now.

Once you make those decisions, it's easy. What's most important, as far as potentcy, is harvesting at the exact right time. The book covers that, too.

7. Since it's already rooted in dirt you are ready to go. Buy a bigger pot, some potting soil

and a $5 bottle of fish fertilizer at the garden shop.
follow those instructions on the bottle it will last until you need the $5 bottle of Bloom fert later in the spring summer

Plant it in there.
Leave it under the strongest light you can in your house until it gets warm out.
Then you can put it outside
Go easy on the fish fert until you get it outside, It can stink a bit and a young plant doesn't need to be overfed.
Let the dirt dry out a little before watering each tine.
Over watering over feeding is bad.

Let that thing grow long enough until the fall and you will have a mini tree when your done.

11. if you have pets..they will be attracted to the Fish fertilizer..they will eat it,

..dig in it..roll in it. I had to quit using it on any of my garden plants.

8. Clones are very light sensitive

It will go into flowering at a small size unless you give it at least 18 hrs of light - preferably 24 until May when the days are long enough to keep it from flowering. Go online and get a small grow light because even if you have it in a sunny window, at this point, it will need extra light when the sun goes down.

9. You also should ask the dispensary if it's in soil or coco coir so you know how to feed it

If it's coco, you will need to be giving it a light nutrient solution. I never transplant till the roots fill the container and are coming out the bottom. Many people now mix good soil and coco for a lighter mix.

10. go get a cheap grow light and put it over the plant on the kitchen counter..

....I did this for a cpl years ...24-7 light until able to transplant outside. Got some fairly decent harvests but the last 2 years we have had smoke from forest fires obscured almost all the sun. I live in a canyon at 2750 so short grow season anyway! I finally bought a grow box from BC Northern Lights.

Lucky you to score a clone.. I do all mine from seed now...since an (extremely fast growing) MALE impregnated all my plants in the grow box.
