White House hints at crackdown on recreational marijuana

White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Thursday suggested the Trump administration will step up enforcement of federal laws against recreational marijuana.

“I think you’ll see greater enforcement,” Spicer said, while adding the exact policy is “a question for the Department of Justice.”

It’s the latest sign President Trump is poised to take a tougher approach than the Obama Justice Department did in states that have legalized the use of recreational marijuana.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions was coy about his approach last month during his confirmation hearing.

Thanks for posting this.

I hope Herr Sessions thinks better of this policy. Pot has become integral to a lot of state economies and budgets.

I was hoping someone would post this.

There is a huge epidemic of prescription drug abuse. Drugs like Oxycontin, Valium, Vicodin, and Dilaudid are out of control. Why? Because doctors are prescribing them like candy. These are serious painkillers that disrupt lives and families. An addiction to them is crippling to leading a normal life, but because they are produced by the pharmaceutical industry, we will not see any substantial effort to battle this massive problem. Instead, the administration and Republican congress will bait and switch and take draconian measure against recreational marijuana.

Millions of Americans use marijuana recreationally. Its no worse than beer and arguably better for you and less dangerous than drinking. The majority of users can think rationally and go about their daily business without impediment. It is not addicting. There are actual health benefits. Marijuana has become mainstream and accepted by the majority of our nation, even many non-users.

Like so many of their positions, they are clueless and out of touch with the country. Apparently they want to return to the bad old days of Just Say No and filling their private prisons with upstanding citizens whos only crime is having a dime bag or lighting up. Get ready for more draconian fascism over a little plant that God made, rather than those with armies of lobbyists.

Of course solving the opiod crisis would take real leadership.
