But unless I am mistaken Japan has some pretty extreme weed laws. At least last time I checked. All races of people I have met personally, and that is pretty much everyone, loves weed.

When asked why they thought the USA was legalizing for 'recreation purposes', two said "there are a lot of unstable people in the USA?" and one said "For the money..."

It would be interesting to see however, the effect of recreational cannabis on a highly efficient industrial society. We know what it does to an inefficient industrial society...it makes us want to change it.

6. When a student at SF State ...

There were a lot of foreign exchange students, some being Japanese and many were my friends. They wanted to go to Winterland and see a concert so I took them to it. Someone offered one of them a cookie and he ate it. He thought it was just a "cookie". HA!

He got so stoned that he freaked out and we had to leave! I guess he was not a fan of MJ, that is all I will say!

Tokuo did not speak English. His friend (my date) told me that someone gave him a cookie and he ate it and he was worried that there was something in it (about an hour after he ate it).

I had no idea myself as I was young and had not a clue he had eaten anything other than dinner.

In any event, we took Tokuo home and he was just fine in a few hours but he never tried MJ again after that to my knowledge.

Tokuo should have been a bit leary IMO as there were people eating these cookies being handed out all over the place and smoking MJ everywhere. Oh well ... live and learn I guess.

10. Such a great illustration of a cross section of the Japanese.

I have always admired the social etiquette and respect the Japanese have for the general populace. I was actually born on a US base in Saitama Ken during the Korean War era and made a couple of overnight business trips more recently to Japan.
This cross section showed very well educated and very physically fit citizens of all interviewed. I enjoyed this, yuiyoshida, and look forward to more posts.
