Raptors win first NBA title by knocking off Warriors in six games

By Washington Post Staff June 14 at 12:01 AM

Fourth quarter: Raptors 114, Warriors 110

In the first NBA Finals featuring games played outside the United States, the Raptors prevailed behind a strong playoff run from star Kawhi Leonard (22 points) and fan support that stretched across Canada. Kyle Lowry led Toronto all night in Game 6, finishing with 26 points, 10 assists and a huge fadeaway down the stretch.

Golden State, playing its final game in Oracle Arena, was seeking its third straight championship and fourth in five years. An injury to Klay Thompson (game-high 30 points) was just the latest setback in a series defined by them. Draymond Green had a massive game with 11 points, 19 rebounds and 13 assists.

the only *foreign* NBA team, and mostly black like most NBA teams... so...... I dunno...

It is possible he might keep his stupid mouth shut for once. Not likely, but possible.

2. Congrats to all the scumbag Raptors fans who celebrated when KD got seriously injured

All it took for you to win your first championship was for about half of the players on the opposing team to get injured in some way. Durant probably won’t play for all of next season, but hey, you’re so happy about that, because it helps your team. The worst thing about this is that a fan base like that gets to celebrate. It’s disgusting.

But you guys visibly cheering for an injury (which is virtually unheard of in sports) was rewarded with a championship. Congratulations on your bad taste. Kevin Durant will celebrate it with a long period of painful rehabilitation, but hey, you don’t care about anything but your team winning, do you?

And also Raptors fans raised money for one of Kevin Durant's charities to make up for the classless ones.

I would have loved to seen Durant healthy. I was rooting for a Raptors - Warriors series all year. It is tough to reach the Finals 5 straight years and remain completely healthy.

Outside of the fans that cheered they have a great fan base which Im not really apart of they are just my favorite East team. I used to root for Reggie Miller & the Pacers because I wanted to see him win a ring so bad. They way Steph Curry moves without the ball reminds me a lot of Miller as well as the accurate long distance shooting. Anyways I knew my Suns were out of it from the beginning of the season so I was rooting for Raptors vs Warriors finals.

On edit : I think most of the real fans were priced out of the Finals.

On edit: cheering for an injury is not that unheard of. I remember Eagles fans at the stadium that day cheer when Michael Irvin suffered a career ending injury. I also had 1997 Arizona Cardinals season tickets and fans cheered when Kent Graham got hurt vs the Titans or Oilers who happened to be the Cardinals QB. I think they all including myself wanted to see Jake Plummer who was a Rookie but I didn't cheer I was just a kid. Besides they didn't play Plummer until the next game in Philadelphia I think they subbed Stoney Case that games against Tennessee.

It’s in film, you can’t lie your way out of it. Admit it, your team’s fan base has no class.

They gave him a standing ovation as he was exiting the tunnel and chanted "KD!" That's on film. Yes some Raptors fans are as bad as Mark Stevens.

Raptors fans have raised more than $10,000 for Kevin Durant's charity after the Warriors superstar was injured during Game 5 of the NBA Finals in Toronto.

Raptors fans cheered when Jeremy Lin made a game winning 3 on them when he played for the NY Knicks now he is the first Asian American to win a NBA Title.

these last two games were about the most thrilling, edge-of-your-seat NBA finals games I can remember. Kudos to both teams - they both played their hearts out.

I like Toronto Canada.....my son is moving there in August because his fiancee's family is moving there from Dubai...They had way too much red tape moving their business to America...so, it's Cananda.
