and I'll be sure to check out when it's released.

I couldn't help but notice that it looks to be set in the late 1970's - based on the graffiti on the subway car, the big land yacht cars driving around, the garbage piled up on the sidewalk, the clothing styles. Very reminiscent of the Big Apple in the mid to late '70s.

6. Yes, but this is a new kind of origin-story.

The guy who turned into the super-villain Joker always was a criminal before and in some origin-stories there is an accident involving chemicals.

But a good-hearted guy simply breaking and going insane... that's new.

8. Rated R. Joaquin Phoenix. An adult movie for one of the best villains.

I can not wait to see this movie. The trailers themselves are stand alone pieces of cinematic art.

I am enjoying fan reactions to the final trailer on YouTube.

This is not an action movie. It is about a comic-book character, but it is neither funny nor campy. It is a deep, dark psychological drama that will make you uncomfortable, make you cringe, possibly make you cry. This is profound social commentary that will shake your soul. It is a character study that, in my understanding, will exist as a standalone, not a part of the DC-Universe. Is there violence? Yes, as one would expect in an origin story of the Joker. But this film does not glorify violence as some suggest. There are plenty of films out there that DO glorify violence. You all know which ones they are. This is not one of them. This film mourns violence. Be forewarned that it will affect you. I was left feeling drained, emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausted. It is intense. If you love movies, see this film. Joaquin Phoenix gives an Oscar-worthy performance. He is stunning. This is a once in a lifetime role, and not to be missed if you love the arts. This IS art at its best.

The Joker looks like a film that advocates being a martyr, taking a beating, and smiling all through it. Sorry, but I don't buy that.

Since what you think it advocates for isn't even close to it.

But preach on without facts, it's what we do!

Now I'm trying to figure out what was real and what was fantasy. Very good movie.

is the favorite to win best actor. Adam Driver is good but I think it will take some kind of fix for Phoenix to lose.

18. Has any other fictional character been played only by Academy Award winners in films?

1989 Joker - prior Oscar winner Jack Nicholson

2008 Joker - Heath Ledger won an Oscar for the role

2016 Joker - prior Oscar winner Jared Leto

2019 Joker.- Joaquin Phoenix won an Oscar for the role

(The Ceasar Romero Joker in 1967's The Batman Movie I treat as being in an extended tv episode.

I'm speaking of fictional characters outside of Shakespearean ones. I'm sure a lot of the filmed Lears, Macbeths, and Hamlets have had Oscar winners playing them. But that's heady company for a comic book villain.
