Homeless shelter raises money for little girl battling cancer

These stories drive me crazy because we need Universal Healthcare!!!! But, still, the acts of kindness in contrast to the inhumane system are uplifting.

VIDEO AT LINK BELOW

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) - A Kansas City 4-year-old is getting help from an unlikely source. When a person talks about the men of the City Union Mission, they're talking about men who can't afford to really give anyone anything. But those men aren't letting it stop them from helping a 4-year-old girl named Payton Adams who is battling leukemia.

The men became aware of the young girl's plight through Johnny Evans, the mission's men's evening shelter manager. He also happens to volunteer as a security guard at Payton's preschool. Now the men have been filling water cooler bottles with any spare change they find and turning that money over to Payton's parents to help with medical expenses. They've titled the project Pennies for Payton. They've been doing it since 2011 and Thursday marked the third cooler of change the men have given to the family.

"Medical bills, transportation to the emergency rooms and it is amazing how these guys who have very little, how the pennies add up dollars and dollars add up to hundreds. So we have sometimes come out of here with $500, $300, whatever they have and it really has been a blessing," said Leilani Adams, Payton's mother.

The family always writes a note back to the men telling them how much was in the jar and thanking them for their huge sacrifice, especially since many of the men may be estranged or separated from their own families.

The first is the "Live and let live" they like to be left alone, to do what they need to live. But these are men who, if they can, will help in a time of need.

The second is the "Darks", they will hurt you if it means that they get something, not a good group.(Not one that is behind the good of this story)

The third are called "Knights" this group will give you there food, even if they really need it, just because YOU do.

It looks to me that City Union Mission has a great number of group 1 and 3!
