Homily notes of this morning's Mass

The homily this morning was about being called, accepting the call and acting on it.
The 1st reading was the call of Samuel and how the young boy began by listening and not permitting any word of the Lord to be wasted.

In the Gospel John told 2 disciples that Jesus was the Lamb of God. Andrew and the other went to Jesus and spent the day with him. Andrew found his brother Simon and brought him to Jesus.

So first answer the call, next learn, and then bring others.

Everyone present is called by Christ and need to listen, learn and make other disciples.

Francis of Assisi's advice to brother Leo was mentioned that we, should "preach the gospel always when necessary use words." And that Francis receive his call to, “Go repair my Church, which as you see is falling completely in ruin”

Even though the church has been in troubled waters regularly the Holy Spirit guides the right people to steer the ship to safer waters.

Before I knew about this safe place, I might have posted this in Religion. That's not a mistake to make twice.

3. Haven't really been there.

I am conflicted about how much I love the Church and the sacraments and of course, God, and yet am so frustrated by the lack of empathy by the US Catholic Bishops, who apparently have not heard the call of Francis.

4. My great aunt who lead her order of nuns once told me

"That's not your business, you do what you know is right!" I was complaining about stuff going on in the Church. I was a bit miffed that she didn't take my side and then I met Dorothy Day (of the Catholic Worker) through her writing and realized my aunt is correct.- Just do what is right, where you can and when you can. That's hard enough for me cause I definitely fail on occasion.

It is special that a Jesuit took the name of Francis and seems to be channeling him. After Burke being pulled down from his pedestal maybe some self-righteous bishops, priests and deacons will see the light.

5. I should learn that lesson, as I have heard it from various sources in so many words.

9. That was the theme in my parish as well.

There was an ice storm this morning and even the grass was slippery. Before we left, the priest said, "If you hear somebody calling for help, listen."
