They really are the old elemental gods. Each seems to have a realm they can be called on and it doesn't matter what their names are, they still protect and rule certain places and things. For instance St. Francis of Assisi protects animals but so does the fairy Flidais and the Archangel Ariel.

I found them well-researched and even fun to just sit and read, learning while researching I'll have to see, too, what other spirits are similar to fairies and angels. I know there are a fair number with qualities of both, I just can't remember them at the moment (writing deed descriptions, so my brain is a bit fried...)

I have the Kindle version of both books, though I do wish they had linked each individual alphabet letter to make it easier to browse. I'll have to suggest that and maybe get updated copies if they reformat them.

Some aren't terribly well-behaved, though. Coyote would definitely wear his halo at a rakish angle.

I mean a lone, real coyote was coming out in daylight to yap at my house. I went outside and he would stand on the hill and yap at me, and then run away. None of his pack mates were around and mostly they prowl around in the middle of the night anyway. He did this three days in a row at the same time every day. So I looked up the meaning. It seems trickster was trying to warn me of a betrayal I was about to experience and I did within the week. I got unexpectedly fired from my job after being there for four years. My boss was untruthful to me as to the reason and he did it suddenly. Truth was he had found someone to replace me for less money but tried to make me believe it was my fault. I also got some lesser betrayals from acquaintances in the weeks that followed. I haven't seen coyote since then. Thank goodness, but appreciate that he tried to warn me, even though I couldn't figure out the message before hand.

I am trying to see the messages being sent my way although, I have to admit I'm not really open to them as they come by surprise.

one day during spring migration, and we were way out in the middle of nowhere when a pack of coyotes (maybe two packs because it was a distinctly symphonic chorus) set up a group howl. One of the urban guys looked around in near panic and wailed, "My God, it sounds like Jurassic Park out here!"

11. They can be quite a chorus. Odd though that they would be out in full sight during the day.

You must have been in a really remote place. My husband and I used to camp in the Lolo Wilderness in Montana when they were first introducing the wolves back. When they howl at night it's really an almost spiritual experience. It makes their little coyote cousins sound like kids choir compared to the high school glee club.
