Camp to promote religious diversity

Although the school year is getting ready to make way for summer, kids attending the four-day “Dance, Feast, Pray” interfaith program are about to get a lesson on diversity.
The 23 first- through fifth-graders registered for the camp that starts Tuesday will learn such things as how to write their names in Arabic, prepare an Israeli meal and perform liturgical dances.
“No matter what culture you’re from, we are a lot more similar than people might think, even if faith traditions or language differ,” said the Rev. Dr. Angela Yarber, pastor at Wake Forest Baptist Church. “We realize that Christians, in the South especially, are in a majority, so we want to open the eyes of the kids to different religions.”
The program, which will run through Friday, is organized by Wake Forest Baptist Church, Temple Emanuel and the Community Mosque.
