Texas gun show loophole armed a Zeta drug lord

(snip)

Morales commits atrocities. The kidnapping of and then killing of 265 immigrants that refused to act as drug mules for the criminal organization.

Manuel Rodriguez, of Spring Branch, Texas was the man who provided the assault rifle. When they searched his house they found 76 more guns, 10,000 rounds of ammunition, and cash. 15,000 dollars.

(snip)

In Texas, Rodriquez posed as a private seller at the gun shows. It was a loophole he could use to sell the guns without first conducting a background check.

Those who bought the guns from him would then sell them to the Zetas.

I'm shocked! I'm truly shocked I tell you!

If this guy had paid his child support and stayed in Texas, he would still be in business.

Thanks Gov. Perry!

4. There isn't . What he was doing wouldn't have been any different (with respect to the law)

if he had been doing it while not at a gun show. Also as the article pointed out what
he was doing was illegal.

5. Yes there is. One who doesn't sell enough guns to be deemed a dealer, can set up a table at a gun

show, drape a confederate flag or whatever over the table and sell guns to any yahoo that can't pass a background check. It's that simple. That's a loophole under any definition.

And, if the person doesn't have enough guns to warrant a table, they can wonder around with a sign saying they have guns for sale. Or, they can sit out in the parking lot and sell away from their trunk.

Truthfully, people should have to get a background check through an FFL (who will keep the paper work and be accountable) even to pass a gun on their their kids. NRA President Keene should have had to perform a background check before giving his son a gun, since his son was imprisoned for shooting an innocent motorist in a road rage incident.

That's the point - it has nothing to do with a gun show, they could do that at any parking lot.
If you consider it a loophole, you should call it a 'private sale loophole' not a 'gun show loophole'.

7. Immoral people can take 10, 20, 30 guns to a gun show to sell -- as long as not on a regular basis.

They benefit from the gun show marketing, all the yahoos that go to the gun show an get excited over the smell of thousands of guns, etc. If you can't pass a background check, look for a gun show -- then, you don't have to deal with criminals on a street corner to get a gun.

That is a loophole that needs to be closed, as does allowing anyone to sell or transfer a single gun without a background check.

It is a loophole, no matter how you describe it. It's further evidence of how the gun culture obfuscates the facts of gun trafficking in this country. It is a mechanism for selling more gunz to more people. It's supported by NRA and gun nuts.

Time to close it, and be done with it.
