'More guns in fewer hands': US study charts rise of hardcore super owners

'More guns in fewer hands': US study charts rise of hardcore super owners - 9/19/16

Americans own an estimated 265m guns, more than one gun for every American adult, according to the most definitive portrait of US gun ownership in two decades. But the new survey estimates that 130m of these guns are concentrated in the hands of just 3% of American adults – a group of super-owners who have amassed an average of 17 guns each.

The new survey, conducted in 2015 by public health researchers from Harvard and Northeastern universities, also found that the proportion of female gun owners is increasing as fewer men own guns. These women were more likely to own a gun for self-defense than men, and more likely to own a handgun only.

The new survey also found a much higher estimate of annual gun thefts: 400,000 guns stolen per year, compared with 230,000 a year in a recent estimate from the National Crime Victimization Survey.

Overall, the survey found, gun owners tended to be white, male, conservative, and live in rural areas. Thirty per cent of conservatives said they were gun owners, compared with 19% of moderates and only 14% of liberals. The strongest predictor of gun ownership was military service. 44% of veterans said they owned a firearm.

The right-wing gun nuts are stockpiling guns for the coming "________" war (fill in the blank: civil, race, etc.). They are selling fear to bolster gun sales and to stoke discontent among the populace in order to sell more fear.

Vote Democratic and help to stop this madness

What do they plan to do here? Shoot elected officials they imagine might be the next Hitler?

(Who are we kidding, if the next Hitler is elected here, they'll be carry a flag in the parade.)

They are primarily semi auto rifles and pistols with rapidly interchangeable high capacity magazines.

These are not collectors or target shooters or even home defense owners.

They are hoarders of tools designed for maximum leathality against human targets.

As the AltRight movement is more exposed and militant militia groups grow it's easy to see exactly who is hoarding these guns.

Being sold as a sporting rifle whatever that is. It was the FIRST of the CAR-15 family of assault rifles. The M-16's were slight modifications on the AR-15. The AR15 "invented" the rapid drop and load of the magazine. Among several other new adaptations for combat.
