Is there a way I can make my own avatar?

Hi folks--
I would like to make my own avatar. Are there directions for doing it and is it allowed? thanks in advance for the help.

Click on "My Account" and click on the tab "Star Membership."

Then just follow the directions.

Reduce/resize your image to fall below size requirements, then copy it to a web based image storage repository, like photo bucket, then use the url for the stored image in your profile

edit: my avatar was from Vonnegut's "Breakfast of Champions" ...
