It seems a little difficult to buy a star.

I had to walk my father through the process and it was complicated.

I'm pretty familiar with the site and I had some difficulty finding the right page, tab and then the option for paying without using paypal.

He had been trying on his own since his star expired and was frustrated.

Shouldn't it be really easy?

1. My Account > Star Membership Tab > Renew Now (chose option)

It seems really super easy and straightforward to me. Did you have a specific question about the process or are you just unhappy with it as it currently is?

If you can get to the star buying stage, there is an option to pay by credit card.

The downside is that it can't be self-renewing and it actually costs more per year.

At least I think that's right.
