Thanks, EarlG, for fixing that disastrous problem with the Sent folder not showing recipients' names.

I was about to send you mail about this, stressing that this was REALLY important for any forum, when I checked it again and saw to my delight that it was finally working properly. I know it's just been fixed, since I'd mentioned in mail to a friend less than an hour ago that it made DU mail really terrible, and I'd checked the Sent folder again just before writing to him and it was still just showing the sender's name in the Sent folder then.

So glad to have the Sent folder usable again...

It would be nice to have mail searchable by name, too, but I don't know if that's doable at all, and there are more important problems to deal with.

The Sent folder showing only the sender's name, though, was enough of a flaw for DU that it could have been very off-putting for any new members encountering it, especially since there wasn't a clear notification that the problem would be fixed soon.

I realize there are only two of you working on this. But as someone who sends mail to a number of DUers, and highplainsdem Oct 2023 #2
Yeah, that was disasterous. Wonder Why Oct 2023 #3

It wasn't a difficult fix, Elad took care of it just now.

I think that in order to manage expectations I should remind you that there are only two of us, and it's going to take us a while to work our way through the issues that have been brought to our attention since launch. In addition, our list of priorities is not the same as your list of priorities, and just because you deem something essential, it doesn't mean we're going to fix it immediately.

I appreciate your patience while we continue to work through the post-launch phase.

who sent mails to a much larger number of people when I was admin of a forum, I did think this had to be a top priority. And I did think it might worry new users, since I'd never seen an inbox anywhere that had just the sender's name in the sent folder, in the nearly 40 years since I first got online. There are newbies who'll be discovering the site now who don't know you're still fixing a lot of problems with the redesign. So they might think you were fine with having only the sender's name showing in the sent folder.

And DU regulars needed to know before they sent much mail to different friends here and then discovered only their own name appeared in the Sent folder. Which is why I'd posted in GD about it as soon as I spotted it - https://www.democraticunderground.com/100218385373 - to give people here a heads-up and suggest a workaround of adding the recipient's name to the mail header till the problem was fixed.

I'm not trying to be a pest. I'm trying to help, based on everything I've learned in all the time I've spent online.

When the transition to DU3 was made, were their problems similar to the ones people are having now with the new board (technical problems, not just adapting to the new design)? And if so, was there any kind of notice on every page, or at least the home page, that this is a new design and anyone encountering problems should check Community Help? Someone just discovering DU now won't have any idea that this is a new design and you're working as fast as you can to take care of any problems discovered. They might think any technical problems or serious confusion because of the design will be permanent.
