Suggestion: when starting a new discussion offer video forum options

The old Video forum has been retired, and the new forums, “Cable News Clips” and “Liberal YouTubers” don’t show up in the quick options list when you click to start a new discussion.

This causes most folks to just post their videos in GD.

I would suggest a “Video Forums” quick option, and place it near the top of the tiles/list of quick options.

What a chore to figure out how to add a video. ffr Oct 2023 #2
Nope, that's wrong. Media isn't for posting media, it's for discussions about the media. ffr Oct 2023 #3
What is your video about? Just post it in the forum that it is most appropriate for EarlG Oct 2023 #4

While they're not immediately visible, you can get to them from that page, they're in the Issues Forum category.

I'm not sure about additional direct links. Those video forums aren't any more or less special than any of the other forums on DU. And so far people don't seem to be having any trouble finding them -- I'm seeing lots of videos being posted in the two new forums, there doesn't seem to be much if any crossover into GD.

I'm having difficulty figuring this out. To post one, it would make sense to start in the Latest Videos section, but the option to start the discussion takes you to a confusing set of 'where do you want to add your discussion to' areas.

Fck it, I'll just post under Issue Forums, dropdown Media and hope that's right. It is true I am having "issues" posting media, but my video doesn't address how to solve issues posting media.

Maybe a link to post media/videos within Latest Videos would streamline this process a little or some better direct path. Guessing at where to post your video from Latest Videos seems like it adds a lot of layers and wrong avenues that don't have any relation to media or videos. I know I don't want to post a video to LBN or GD, so why are those even presented as options?

New forum teething problems. Ugh!

If it's about a particular issue, put it in the most relevant forum in the Issues Forums section (if it is a cable news clip or a video by a well-known liberal YouTuber, there are forums specifically for those types of videos). Otherwise it can go in the most appropriate Issue Forum.

If it is non-political, look at one of the forums in the Culture Forums category. If it is about an issue of particular relevance to a specific group of people, try the Alliance Forums category. If it is most relevant to a particular state, try the Region Forums category.

It's entirely up to you where you post your video -- put it wherever you think it will be of most interest to people who might want to watch it.

No matter which forum you choose, your video will appear at the top of the Latest Videos page as soon as you post it.
