how does one embed a picture in a post.

If it's a photo you found on the internet, right click on it and depending on your browser, you should see Image URL or Copy image address or something like that. Paste it into your posting. Like your smiley above? I did that and that's how it's here now ---> 
If it's a photo that YOU have that is NOT on the internet, you have to upload it to Photobucket or some other sharing service that when uploaded, gives you its unique link/URL that you would use just as I described above.
It's a learning process. Enjoy!!
