How to Out a Rapist

http://www.thenation.com/blog/169009/how-out-rapist

In one of my favorite feminist movies—the 1996 flick Girls Town —a group of fed-up young women write the names of the men who raped them on their high school’s bathroom wall. Other students join in, listing their attackers from schoolmates to teachers—warning other women and reclaiming public space.

Today, a Kentucky teen is facing jail time for doing much the same thing: naming her rapists on Twitter. Seventeen-year-old Savannah Dietrich was sexually assaulted by two acquaintances while unconscious—her attackers took pictures and sent them to friends. After the young men pleaded guilty to the attack and agreed to a plea of felony sexual abuse and misdemeanor voyeurism, the judge ordered that no one speak about the court proceedings or the attack itself.

“I was crying as she was reading that,” Dietrich told a local paper. “They got off very easy…and they tell me to be quiet, just silencing me at the end.”

Dietrich ignored the order and tweeted their names. “There you go, lock me up,” she wrote. “I’m not protecting anyone that made my life a living Hell.” Deitrich now says she ready to go to jail to stand up for the right to speak out. As Amanda Hess at Slate writes, “The criminal justice process can also rob the victim of control over her own narrative.”

It's the Lisabeth Salander solution. Not entirely legal, but arguably just.

they were a whole male fantasy wet dream put out as feminism cause the female character was empowering, having been raped more than once, getting back at the guy. pathetic. a whole story about abuse of women in the most violent ways.... feminism. an ugly, not much of anything middle aged man having hot young women throwing themselves at him as he made sexist remarks thru out. a feminist novel.

poorly written. no editor wanted to touch it. couldnt sell it for anything in sweden. until the guy died and they gave books away creating a pr blitz. they had to change the title in the u.s. to be able to sell. the real title is.... men who hate women.

feminist....

the american movie was even worse. all in the name of feminism.

ya, tattoo girl. so empowering and feministic, 27? yr old WOMAN, a girl.

But I've found it hard to explain to others so that they understand, you know? How I'm supposed to be a feminist yet don't like these types of books/movies. You all explain it much better.

then to further show us the bullshit is in the movie there is a 2:45 rape scene. not leading to, not leading away, but fuckin graphic on and on and on focused on the woman being raped for fuckin 2:45. that is not about creating a movie but a titillating seen of rape for entertainment. our norm pushed the line of rape porn into mainstream media.

the same purpose with 50 shades, game of thrones and many other recent shows and movies

rationalizes it as 'art'.

I guess to some extent it is. Kinda like that scene in The Last Temptation of Christ. There's all kinds if art, some has a lot of people who appreciate it, some less so.

really, they HAVE to add it cause it is reality. makes it realistic. boy prostitution is a reality. boy and man rape is a reality.

there is very little in movies and if so very short and very discriminating what is shown. more implied. totally implied. very short.

i know in most of the westerns ect.... it is non existent.

why?

cause men cannot handle that reality and are not "entertained" about that reality.

I was almost raped in college by a guy I considered a good friend. I started crying, and he stopped, but it was frightening.

I began telling people what happened, and was horrified by the number of women who had also been physically overpowered by the same guy. Most of these rapists, like pedophiles, are repeat and multiple offenders.

One close friend started crying, and said "well, he stopped for you, he didn't stop for me when I told him 'no' ". She had never told anyone what he had done. Another good friend had a roommate he had pinned down and raped, and she knew several other women he had raped. I began telling every women in our social circle about him in order to decrease the number of potential victims for him. Those who hadn't experienced it found it hard to believe, because he seemed so kind (think Zander from Buffy) but I'm sure they were less likely to get into situations where they were alone with him.

More exposure of these creeps can only help

I think if I had actually BEEN raped, it might have been harder emotionally.

As it was, I was more angry then victimized.

We need everyone to speak up.

Now we need the gag order lifted, and to find out what kind of slap on the wrist non-punishment these rapists received.
