Village Voice Media: Stop the selling of young girls for sex on Backpage.com

By Victoria, age 13 (and Mary Pannell, my mom) (Contact)

Village Voice Media: Please get rid of the adult section of your website, Backpage.com, where young girls are advertised for sex. No one should be able to use Backpage to buy or sell another person. Girls are not commodities.

My name is Victoria, and I’m 13 years old. I recently found out that girls as young as me are being sold for sex by people using a classifieds website called Backpage.com.

(snip)

I recently became friends with a girl who was advertised by her pimp on Backpage.com. She's 13 years old just like me. What happened to her is so scary. I don’t want any other girl to experience that.

Let’s back up for a moment. There’s no doubt that many escort ads on Backpage are placed by consenting adults. But it’s equally clear that Backpage plays a major role in the trafficking of minors or women who are coerced. In one recent case in New York City, prosecutors say that a 15-year-old girl was drugged, tied up, raped and sold to johns through Backpage and other sites.

and other sites.

it sure is good to know how willing all these girls are, choosing the "profession" allowing the men to have a good ole time without any obligation to other human beings.

how many girls are drugged, tied up, raped and sold for their and others entertainment.

i was thinking about this the other day. today, in all our progression and sophistication we wonder how slavery would ever be allowed. what kind of people owned slaves. why they did not stand up.

then we have today, where it is a shoulder shrug.

there is no wonder why in the past we allowed that treatment of other human beings

personal interest, wants, desires, override simple human compassion.

more people are starting to wake up and beginning to help the girls (and yes, boys) who have been kidnapped and forced in to the sexual slave trade. Organizations like Streetlight.org have an excellent campaign to help the girls who have been rescued from the pimps. Now to get a law like Sweden where the pimps and johns are prosecuted and the girls get help to get out of the 'business'.
