Never done a book club either, but those were kind of funny.

I've got three or four books stacked by my bed right now. It's the only time I can get reading in. Unfortunately my doctor recently told me to quit reading in bed because it was aggravating my shoulder. So.... lol. I'll have to find some time during the day to find a quiet place (ha ha) and get a chapter or two in.

Maybe because the books I read aren't ones that many other people would read. Though I encountered a fair few people who read Robert Fisk's 'The Great War For Civilisation' and I reckon sitting round in turtlenecks discussing that while sipping chardy would have been a very different experience for me

I bet you haven't read one like 'Hizbullah: The Story from Within' by Sheikh Naim Qassam. It was pretty heavy going and I never got all the way through it coz he talked too much about religion, which bored me...

I confess to making a huge mess on two pages of a library book (!) when penne pasta with red sauce plopped all over the open pages of the book! I no longer eat anywhere near library books. If I mess up my own books, that's my thing, but I felt awful messing up theirs.

When I would lend a paperback book to my mother, it would always look like 10 other people had read it when she returned it!

3. Several people have noted key differences in structure between the modern bestselling novel and commercially successful classic literature. Who do you think these people are trying to impress? Can we all acknowledge that these people went to Brown so we can move on?
