(18,479 posts)...was abolished by law virtually worldwide a long time ago. The laws against it, haven't stopped it. An almost universal disgust for trafficking and for those who profit from it hasn't stopped it.
IMNSHO, those that traffic women would also traffic children.

(115,103 posts)The 13th amendment abolished slavery in the United States and provides that "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
Now, knowing this, think about how many more black people are incarcerated. Think about chain gangs. Think about for-profit prisons.

(18,479 posts)...the government engages in numerous illegal activities and files them under different names. For example: when is murder not murder? (When you categorize it as war and call it a drone strike.)

(115,103 posts)You'd think all you'd have to say is 'there are more slaves now than at any other time in human history' and people would take it seriously. Instead there's no small amount of pushback. Maybe it's just too big of a problem for some people to face... I dunno.

(56,912 posts)and the fact that so many countries are involved that it is a good reason to institute some type of Global Court System to carry out the justice. Where does one even start in charging someone must less which country will hear the cases?
