1. I'll be glad when she slips into cultural irrelevancy

Which should be soon now. Especially if she's going out of her way to sound like an idiot.

Oh and guys? If you're not into beer and bars and muscle cars, I suspect you're not meeting GaGa's exacting standards.

This is not a stupid woman. She's smart, politically savvy, has been a true friend to the lgtb community. The word feminist has, in some ways, gotten hijacked. It's my observation many young women won't embrace the word, but if you get talking to them about ideas and issues, they support many feminist values.

but to accept that definition is to join the idiots.

People have to stop taking their cues from MRAs, FeMRAs, "traditional" and "old fashioned" people, etc. To do so is to allow them to halt progress on these issues and maintain the status quo.

What I find interesting is the word feminism is now mainstream. I'm guessing in GaGa's case it's an 'edgy' thing to say. She is a pop star queen and to stay on top of her game she has to ride that edge. So the fact she's being asked her opinions about it isn't necessarily a bad thing.

She's clever, what she did with her statement is to shove men in a testosterone box, so to speak. There's much more to men than beer and bars and muscle cars. If I was a guy I'd be kinda insulted at this description of 'male culture'. As a women I wonder why she thinks those things are strictly a male purview, because there's nothing like a good piece of American metal car.

And again true, if you talk to young women and define feminism, there like 'yeah, ok, I believe in that' but it's like people who 'don't like' politics--they remain uninformed

The good thing about Lady GaGa is that nobody takes her seriously, her gig is all about not being taken seriously.

I'm sure she's quite different in civvies and with no makeup. She's not stupid enough to make statements like that but her character is.

Some women, especially younger women, are male centered and male obsessed and they do say that with very serious faces. Eventually they grow up with all the stars out of their eyes and join the rest of us. The rest are hopeless, what my Irish granny called "pants warmers."

she has to know she influences how many young girls think. God help us. If she doesn't believe that, she shouldn't be encouraging other people to believe it.

As a younger woman, I was pretty male obsessed. But I never had a problem reconciling that with being a feminist. It's the vilification of feminism by the right and all the "he man woman hater" groups that have made young girls unwilling to identify as feminists. In that respect, we have failed in our messaging. I don't know how to remedy that.

i never get this.

the way i see it is if someone thinks i hate guys because i'm a feminist there is something wrong with that person. and i don't have some need to be accepted by people who have certain views like that.
