(41,998 posts)That rapists are entitled to define what "sex" is, that women are victims only to the exact point they didn't "do enough" to prevent a rape, or in other words, part of the problem. I know I don't have to tell you how sick that is.

(102,340 posts)and as you self-identify as a male, I'd love to see you post this in the "MEN"s" Group here on DU and hope that you'd get positive feedback in doing so.
Welcome to DU.

(102,340 posts)and thus "incensed" by the message, totally miss the point. It is their responsibility (and that of everyONE) to ensure that rape is taken seriously--not to diminish it because they chose to perceive female violence towards men to be as big a problem and unaddressed--excusing them in their own minds from any need to concerned.
Others constantly point to a handful of wrongful rape accusation cases across the nation to push a viewpoint that rape is nothing more than a trap that they perceive THEMSELVES (and every male) at risk of falling to....
It is EVERYONE's responsibility to work to end rape. Your message is important... I would hope a few more would "get it"...

(13,324 posts)well there you go. More specifically, though, it's up to the majority of men who aren't sexual predators, to curb - rather than encourage - those who are.

(110,159 posts)any of the rape chants or anything else that might suggest a rape culture. really.... nada. they are comfortably blissed in their ignorance. naive even. so innocent.
yet, they want to turn the tables when it is suggest it is a norm, that a person MUST be hanging out with a wrong crowd.
utter, bullshit.
totally fuckin unbelievable.
i cannot stand pretend, especially when it is so unbelievable.
nomorenomore08
(13,324 posts)People always seem to think their own anecdotes disprove larger social problems, almost in a "If I don't see it don't happen!" sort of way. And obviously I don't have to explain what a gigantic logical fallacy that is.
redqueen
(115,103 posts)so maybe racism isn't really the problem... maybe the real problem is the people you're hanging out with!'

(41,998 posts)Do t get me wrong there ARE like-minded men here; they're just not as vocal as the "I'm not a rapist so it's not my problem" element. Out shouted as it were.
nomorenomore08
(13,324 posts)right-wing-ish, MRA-ish arguments RE: gender politics. And I'm sure most of them don't even realize it, given how reactionary our society as a whole tends to be on a lot of these issues.

There are a few though that 'get it' they're just not very vocal here
MRAs are just sick-- I've yet to finds any redeeming qualities , too hate-filled and reactionary. Plus they derail any gender topic

(36,223 posts)hey a woman on DU in response to a terrible story, wrote the word castration!!!!!!!! OMFG!
In response to a woman going to prison for a miscarriage. In which she used an example on the other end of the spectrum, to make a point.
Do you know of any country castrating all males when they hit puberty? I don't. But we got lots of men trying to control womens bodies.
However the point wwas lost on the dimwit.
ismnotwasm
(41,998 posts)But it's the only one I can find.
Well there's this one

(36,223 posts)And for good measure add in your just a misandrist.

(41,998 posts)And my brand new favorite, that gets point for being hilariously stupid--"you want to maintain the zombie patriarchy" and my other new favorite "well I'm Older (usually accompanied by "I'm married to a wonderful woman" --therefore this doesn't apply--
boy there are a lot of new ones.
I should figure out how to make a new one; these are outdated

(36,223 posts)I was just trying to point out the derailment tactics. That one's got lots of finger pointing, with little self reflection, and a limited world view. You can find him derailing in the most comical ways. What's funny is those who fall for it. He's always got some way to try and minimize the issue, and will say he agrees to avoid being labeled an MRA, as he goes on and on, with his ridiculous derailment tactics. Minimizing, making fun of and if that doesn't work try to change the subject to paint men are victims. As women are raped beaten held back, paid less, and their bodies are controlled. Nice progressivism.
boston bean
(36,223 posts)You hate sex. What happened to you to make you become a feminist.
On the last one, you must have been abused, molested, raped, beaten, to think that! How sad, they say.

(41,998 posts)Plus variations on ones relative attractiveness; because we must be wretched, ugly, fat, crazy, can't get a man-type man haters

(36,223 posts)so "visual". And then on the other hand claim women are finicky, not fucking them like they should be... LOL
ismnotwasm
(41,998 posts)And the "men are designed to look for young healthy mates and women are designed to look for "older protectors" (and FFS, nothing like quoting antiquated theories as gospel)

ismnotwasm
(41,998 posts)They actually think we live in a egalitarian society. They also think that women can "get" sex whenever they want--even if were true-- isn't apropos to anything
boston bean
(36,223 posts)who gave out for everyone but "him". It's fucking hilarious, the justifications, and quite illogical.

(115,103 posts)Women's reality simply fades into the background, no longer important once set against a sarcastic, fictional threat against the poor, poor men.
I had no idea what those idiots were bleating about, but I know it would be idiotic.
Now I know it was worse. They actively ignored the point (which was about REAL HARM BEING DONE TO WOMEN) in order to pout and whine about a sarcastic comment used to make a point.
Doesnt that shit just say it all, right there.
boston bean
(36,223 posts)used as an example that would be somewhat on par with the reality women face. It was used to make a point, not something the poster really thought should happen.

(115,103 posts)Every facet of society that exists, exists within it, and is tainted by it. It manifests differently but the source is the same.
On the right, it's blamed on God. On the left, it's simply called nature.
Even in women's groups you will find it. It will take generations to rid ourselves of it because it's coded into our language - thus even the way we think is skewed by it. It's like privilege. You don't just make it go away by being aware it's there. You simply guard against it in yourself and call it out in others. That's all you can do for now.

We are all in this together. A society that disrespects any group of people is a sick society. This man is refreshing. Oh, wow, hes really great.
We are all bystanders if were not directly involved in an abuse triad. Friends, teammates, coworkers, family. What do we do when people harm or are being harmed?
In the end what will hurt the most is not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. Martin Luther King
