Bad news... it never stops.

So I checked the local news this morning for the weather, and they covered this story.

Suspect caught after woman, boy stabbed to death

BEDFORD, Texas -Suspect caught after woman, boy stabbed to death

Posted: May 01, 2013 10:49 PM CDT Updated: May 02, 2013 10:35 PM CDT

A man accused of stabbing his former girlfriend and her 8-year-old son to death is fighting extradition from an Oklahoma jail. His bond is set at $2.5 million.

...

Bedford police say he also stabbed the woman's 12-year-old son. The boy survived, but was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. An 8-month-old child who was also inside the home during the attack was unharmed.

The 12-year-old boy, Marcus Figueroa, managed to call 911 for help after he was stabbed several times in the back of the neck, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.

...

Police say a protective order against Ricks expired in January.

And I couldn't help but be reminded, this happens three times, every day, on average, just in the US.

Some man gets pissed off at his girlfriend, or wife, or ex, and just murders her. Sometimes her kids, too.

Three, every day. On average, just in the US.

How is this treated like background noise? How is male violence not a huge issue? We saw some talk about it after the last couple of killing sprees, but only a little, and it seems to me this is an urgent national conversation we need to have. Hell, a global conversation.

Anyway, then they talked about a 14 year old girl who was lured away from home by a man she met online. A man who was out on bail for sexually assaulting a different 14 year old girl in another state, who also met him online.

So... yeah. I try to avoid news like this, really. Because you know -- you fucking know -- this is just a small glimpse. You know there are so many other predators, and their victims' stories are on some other local station. Just more background noise.

Track of all the registered sex offenders in our neighborhood. There's a lot. I personally know a number victims of violence.

I take care of women who'll quite often have a background of a vague, or ill-defined diagnosis of 'PTSD' and it will turn out to be assault from a partner or sexual assault.

It's everywhere and it's everyday.
