I don’t want to have to compromise my morals in order to make a living

...

i dont want to be molested at shows or on the street by people who perceive me as an object that exists for their personal satisfaction

i dont want to live in a world where im gonna have to start employing body guards because this kind of behavior is so commonplace and accepted and I’m pissed that when I express concern over my own safety it’s often ignored until people see firsthand what happens and then they apologize for not taking me seriously after the fact…

...

I’m tired of creeps on message boards discussing whether or not they’d “fuck” me

I’m tired of people harassing my dancers and treating them like they aren’t human beings

I’m sad that my desire to be treated as an equal and as a human being is interpreted as hatred of men, rather than a request to be included and respected (I have four brothers and many male best friends and a dad and i promise i do not hate men at all, nor do i believe that all men are sexist or that all men behave in the ways described above)

I know exactly how that part feels, particularly online. Except I feel more sorry for them than anything since I know that no one secure in themselves finds threatening another's right to equality. Only those with small minds and weak character feel a need to diminish feminists as anti-sex or man-hating.

And I hope it's changing. The nature of so much of it being brought to light might help.

What I find sad is that in today's day and age you have to write a post about this. You would think that as a society we would have evolved a little more than that by now. I often wonder if these clods (I'm being polite) have sisters or mothers or wives and would they treat them in such a manner. It is such repulsive behavior one would think even they would recognize it. Unfortunately, it seems all to prevalent in today's society. It is a way for little men to feel bigger.
I am glad to see women speaking out more and more on this subject and not just silently taking this really sick and crude behavior.

There's a massive blind spot about this. It all points to a very ugly reality that too many simply do not want to face.

Also, welcome to DU.

My son told me about DU and needless to say I love it. In many ways am being educated on subjects I had not really given enough thought lately. Nice to see things civilly, (for the most part), being discussed. A lot of thought provoking stuff here.

Anytime anyone starts in with the 'they hate men' or 'they hate sex' dumbassery... red flags should be going up all over the place.
