The video features a recording of one of AVFMs regular commenters calling a domestic violence hotline, pretending to be a man named Reno who has been abused by his wife. In reality, Reno is Ian Williams, a puckish Australian who has made himself AVFMs go-to guy for prank calls; you can find several other prank calls from him on his AVFM contributor page.
Heres what Williams, who also goes by the pseudonym Dr. F, has to say about the call:
If youre a man and you are a victim of violence from your partner you may face difficulties finding help. Dont listen to me, heres the guy himself who called. His name is Reno.
Reno calls a battered womens shelter and is denied help.
He is denied help, even though he tells the person on the other end of the phone that he is worried his wife will return with a cricket bat.
That sounds pretty damning, and, in the comments, the regulars at AVFM responded with predictable outrage.
No concern for a beaten man or a boy that could also be a victim and, only able to help(willing) women, wrote Raven01. It makes the hate filled ideology apparent to all.
[Go] feminism- the humanitarian justice movement brought to you by the modern KKK! Perseus added. Sieg Heil, cunts!
Not one of them seemed to care that everything Williams says about the phone call is false. Reno was offered help many times. He was the one who refused it.

This one not so funny-- domestic violence never is/-but typical of a "MRA distortion field."

(9,999 posts)I can tell you that we take calls from men as seriously as calls from women. Although far more rare, domestic violence can work both ways. Shame on this man for his little hoax!

(3,508 posts)to the outreach efforts and desire to offering help to both men and women. I have taken a call from a man myself, and he was hesitant to call, but relieved and grateful for the support.
What drives me crazy is the MRS type guys who bemoan the lack of DV shelters for men, as if they are outlawed or something. If they really wanted shelters they would make the effort to get them established, and not act like women are somehow preventing them from doing so.

(998 posts)be issued a fine for this foolishness? After all, he took up valuable resources that could have been better served to a r e a l victim.
We do fine ijits in this country who prank 9 1 1 calls do we not?
