And I suspect others arenit aware yet either. Thanks for leaving the light on! Re the post below, I believe Occupy needs to start a technical branch. You need some people with shortwave radio skills, ala Egypt. And they need to establish a net. Because if things do get really interesting, I believe they will do a Mubarak and shut off segments of the web.

Given the nature of how Occupy was formed online.

Not to mention the experience gained from the Arab Spring which is both part of the Occupy movement and the next stage of the "Twitter Revolution" that began with the US-backed "color revolutions" in the mid-2000s. This wouldn't be the first time a US overseas media effort indirectly funded the rise of a global anti-establishment culture. It happened in the 60's, for instance.

If and when OWS resumes its activities and I am assuming that it is when I have a suggestion. The media will never cover any of these events unless the police are busting heads and pepper spraying. And the media will never talk to OWS people unless it is to mock or trap them in some way.

I could be wrong, but OWS might actually get coverage if they demonstrated outside the sites where MSM studios are. They almost have to show something if you are outside of their premises on public property. I believe that OWS and other protest groups have to start challenging the media itself. You could have a million people and if they won't cover it the word will not really get out on a national feed. Time and time again with the antiwar demonstrations the media almost never came.

If you have a particular issue you make signs addressing that issue. You also have signs criticizing the media for being a RW shill. The media simply has to be put on the defensive in some way.

If you want to start movement I think that it is essential to occupy the media first.

The OWS movement simply has to adopt the Second Economic Bill Of Rights as first brought up by Teddy Roosevelt and more thoroughly defined by FDR on January 14th, 1944. Had Roosevelt remained healthy enough and lived through the war things might have been different.

The Second Economic Bill Of Rights was his model for a new post war economy where all workers benefitted from the fruit of their labor. That idea addresses ALL the issues around equality. And it is a huge strategic error to ignore that speech.

I have brought that speech up several time on this forum and get very little response. It is the best push back against this free market garbage that is being pushed now.

To the speech and you might get more response. As for the other point, Occupy has its own media. There are plenty of people coming out of school with journalism and communications skills, hopefully some of them will join Occupy. I understand what you are saying about MSM, unfortunately I believe them to be hopelessly corrupt.

7. Teddy Roosevelt and FDR

You can find these speeches on youtube under "Teddy Roosevelt Industrial And Social Justice" and "FDR Second Bill Of Rights".
The Teddy Roosevelt clip is audio put up by a great grandson I believe. The FDR speech was filmed because he was too ill to give a public speech. It was done on January 14, 1944. Their ideas cover all the issues that need to be addressed including the rights of business for fair competition.

I realize that the MSM is a screwed up corrupt mess. I still believe that they must be openly challenged and demonstrated against.
By demonstrating you might get coverage that you would otherwise not get.

I realize that Occupy has its own media that is very good. And that the internet and social media are certainly very important.

By challenging the MSM about them not doing their job it at least forces them to defend themselves. It may be one way to really expose them to the public that might actually get traction over time to force changes.

I have gone to Youtube and searched under both titles and those speeches are there. Listen to them carefully. What they are presenting is what the working class must demand of their government.

One of the last of the boomers. My parents got married during the depression at ages 17 and 16. They stayed married for over 40 years till my Dads death. To them Roosevelt was their savior, someone who made them feel like they had a powerful friend who truly cared for them. Wish we had more of that today.

If you know a way to actually link those speeches I told you about do so. I am not good at linking. Those two speeches are what workers should be putting out.

I think that declaring a need for that Second Bill Of Rights openly would have the RW's heads spinning. It is so common sense that you would have to be totally dense not to understand.

They really are great speeches.

Btw, if you want to post videos, just copy and paste the address in the address bar above the video.

Thanks for posting these. We need to repost these in a more active time. Teddy Roosevelt first brought up the "living wage". Make the GOP argue against a "living wage". Make them argue against FDR's speech.
