2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumClinton vs. Trump: It’s A Tie
Donald Trump is starting the New Year on top, writes Chris Kahn, U.S. political polling editor for Thomson Reuters. Trump continues to dominate the Republican field for the presidential nomination and is now pulling even with Hillary Clinton in support among all voters.
In a hypothetical head-to-head race, the real-estate tycoon and TV personality would be supported by 39 percent of likely general election voters, compared with 40 percent for Clinton, according to the latest 5-day average from Fridays Reuters/Ipsos tracking poll.
The poll asked respondents who theyd pick if the 2016 presidential election was held between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
The answers:
Clinton: 40%
Trump: 39%
Other/Wouldnt vote: 21%
5-day average of 1,336 likely general election voters.
The poll has a credibility interval of 3 percentage points, which means that Trump and Clinton are in a statistical dead heat.

(32,886 posts)Republican criticism yet. Hillary has.
If we are unlucky enough to nominate Bernie, when the Republicans get finished with him, he will be at -25 on election day.
Hillary will be pretty much where she is now or better.

(5,122 posts)You think that Republicans are going to be tougher than Hillary is being and Bernie will not survive it.
Maybe Hillary should smarten up before it's too late. If she can be as tough as Republicans (which you doubt), then go at it.
My point stands. Bernie is good at winning elections. He's won many more than Hillary.
He's our best bet. A damn good one I might add.

(32,886 posts)Actually all your points are bad.
1. No, Hillary shouldn't behave as nasty towards Bernie as Republicans will.
2. No, the election track record of a Democrat who wins races in a Liberal strongholds doesnt apply to winning races nationwide or in a more even district.
3. Bernie is a terrible bet, the attack points against him by Republicans write themselves. All the attack points against Hillary have already been used.
I agree with #1. But, I'm not so sure her team does.
As I said before, on #2, if you say so. Disregard a winning record any way you please. It's still a winning record.
#3. My first post pointed this out. Hillary is disliked more by Independents and Republicans... making Bernie the best bet.

You say... "Bernie is a terrible bet, the attack points against him by Republicans write themselves."
Go for it, give us just one point that may sink Bernie. You can't
